If I go into sharp curves at 40mph or so it feels like one of the front wheel brakes engages and pulls me into the direction I’m turning the wheel. It’s a butt puckering moment when it happens. Sounds almost like the wheel is rubbing against something but it’s not.... Started happening after lifting truck two years ago. Any ideas??

I’ve recalibrated twice. What the heck is the grinding/rubbing noise?

I have had the same issue since swapping to E rated tires with my 3" lift. The grinding sound is probably the brakes pulsing in order to assist the vehicle to get straitened out because the vehicle has perceiving a loss of traction. I have recalibrated the VSC several times and it has made no difference. And I have dug pretty deep in TacomaWorld to find a fix other than recalibration of VSC and have come up with nothing. I think if a smart electronics person were able to create a module to plug inline with VSC in order to reduce sensitivity that may do the trick.

I’m not too familiar with the system.
But would the VSC work if the ABS was not functioning?

Is your steering wheel straight when your driving in a straight line? You could unplug a wheel speed sensor temporarily which would throw a code and should cause the ABS and VSC system to be disabled and then drive it in the same conditions and see if it still does it, that would tell you if it is indeed your VSC system being over sensitive.

That VSC calibration procedure may take a couple of tries. Print out a copy of it and take it to the truck with you when you do it. I had to do it a couple of times to get it to work a few years ago after my lift and new lower control arm bushing replacement. It hasn't given me any problems since.

Are you sure it’s not rubbing on the cab mount?

Make sure your tires are clearing your upper arm at full lock. I

Or just pull the ABS Fuse(s) ABS No 1 50 Amp and ABS No 2 30 amp.

I thought of that but I didn't know how it would affect the brakes if the truck was equipped with the hydraulic booster/ABS, not sure which system OP has.

Check to make sure your tires are not rubbing your upper arm when you turn full lock.... this was my issue before. i was jamming down this windy hill road and my tire grabbed the upper arm and my traction control kicked in because it stopped my tire for a quick second

I’ll check but wouldn’t think it’s the case as I am running stock wheels w spidertrax spacers.

    Option a) different offset wheels
    Option b) wheel spacers

I did option b because it was cheaper

Look for play in your steering system and a-arms. Angled tie rods from lifting and larger tires causes your yaw rate as a function of wheel speed and steering angle to deviate from stock. Normally it's ok but combine it with loose, shifting, or worn components and you'll get unnecessary VSC intervention.
