Auto-dimming (or not) rear view mirror

    I drive a Miata.
    Mine never worked. I always assumed its because my softopper diffuses light just enough for it to not trigger.

    OK, I'm like the OP. I didn't think the center rear view mirror dimmed enough either. I tried covering up the front sensor with a piece of black tape and it certainly dimmed then! I'm considering making a little door or flap to cover the sensor at night so I get the full dimming effect. The dimming may just be a bit too much for my liking, I will play with it when I get some night time driving in.

    Oh, by front I do not mean the sensor you see from the drivers seat, but the one you see if you are standing in FRONT of the vehicle.

    I was able to get it to dim ONCE by covering the front sensor during daylight. When it dimmed the green light on the driver's side also dimmed. It really changed then. It only did it the one time though. Will not do it again. I think it's broken. I'll have to make a trip to the dealer since I'm still under warranty.

    i bought a 2017 new, and my auto dimming mirror has never worked.
