No? The case he’s using is from a 4th gen 4runner. The 1st gen taco is similar to the 3rd gen 4runner.

If you were doing it on a 2nd gen you might be able to use the fj case, but wound have to swap the inputs

I'm not sure I understand. I got confused with the "If you were doing it on a 2nd gen" because I thought bwawuz02 was doing this on a 2nd gen. But re-reading, I think you are saying that a manual transfer case with locking torsen diff from an FJ should be mountable to a 2nd gen Taco auto transmission, but some inputs need switched. Is that correct?

And to recap, no bueno to do this on a 1st gen Taco, cuz their auto trannies were only compatible with the 3rd gen T4R's, which didn't come with the locking torsen diff in a t-case. Am I tracking now?

He is doing this on a 2nd gen.
The fj manual and auto trannies have different outputs. One is the same that the taco’s tranny. The other needs to be changed out.

1st gen taco I thought were also similar to one of the tundra gens.
But yes, your on the right track.

What would prevent this from working on the 10-15s?

ABS (A-TRAC) computer is part of the hydro booster unit. You need that, wiring, stop lamp relay, yaw sensor, hard lines from the master cylinder, and a brake pedal assembly.

I misread your previous question, I thought you were asking something else.

No, you don't need A-TRAC/VSC computer for the full-time 4WD w/locking center diff to work. I'm still running my partially-functional ABS unit and all of the transfer case switching works. I could leave it like this without A-TRAC/VSC forever.

I know ya don’t need the abs to run this tcase. Since that’s what I’m on. But dident realize the abs part was with the brake booster.

Dosent it need to talk to the stability computer to know which wheel is slipping?

The board (46-pin connector) on the side of the hydo-booster's MC is the stability computer. It's all one big unit.

Why do you want AWD? Snow advantage? Would it detract from gas mileage when only 2wd is needed?

And? Inquiring minds want to know about the ATRAC ABS wiring and signal requirements. I have a 2015 SR5 with VSC and I'd trade my boots for that info right now. A plug and play kit for this would sell easy.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. Cool project but what’s the point? In my experience I much prefer 4wd over awd in the snow.

    No hate intended, Genuinely curious.

edit: also just realized this thread is from 2 years ago...

What's interesting is all the FJ80 Landcruiser guys that are converting their AWD to Part Time for slightly better mileage and decreased front end parts wear.
