Does anyone use parking mode for long periods of time even temperature falls below zero?
I don’t want my truck battery running dead and I know that dash cams can cause battery drainage.

I have been doing some research and been recommended to install an external battery but I’d prefer not to spend another $150 for a dash cam accessory over the dash cam cost itself.

    Thanks in advance.

My guess is amp draw would be depend on the dash cam itself.
Blackvue is 325mA and Thinkware is 208.8mA per hour for parking mode.
That battery discharge prevention device would cut off the dash cam at pre-set voltage.

Well, it's either install something like that to prevent your battery from being drained, install an external battery, or deal with the risk of draining your battery.

You can enable winter battery protection for Thinkware dash cams. They have built-in voltage meters to cut off the dash cam when your battery voltage level is 0.2V higher than the voltage setting. So you don’t need to bother worrying about whether your battery will drain or not. There are a few voltage thresholds you can set. (I recommend setting over 12V)

You can also use Thinkware’s energy saving mode and set the dash cam to sleep mode to conserve energy. The dash cam will only record when an impact is detected. Parking mode will sustain for much longer with energy saving.
