Sometimes I feel ridiculous driving my truck and trailer to the ice only to unload my 650lb sled and 600lb ice shack and drive it on the ice, but I'd rather sink a sled then a truck. Even though ironically the truck is a far better insurance outcome than the sled if it sinks.

Does insurance actually cover you if the truck sinks? I would think they'd tell you tough shit, you drove on a lake, your fault, good luck.

Yep, so does yours. Actually everyone that has insurance is covered for a sunk vehicle believe it or not. Lakes are actually public rights of way, and in this country we still to this day have legal, signed, State maintained highways that travel over bodies of water. There are some in Upper Michigan and a whole lot in Alaska and all over Canada. It wasn't long ago that lake Winnipesauke had 2 State of NH maintained ice roads, one from Alton bay to Meredith and one from Wolfboro to Gilford. But the main thing is they are considered public rights of way, and therefore you are allowed to drive on them when frozen. Surprising, but call your insurance agent if you don't believe me... it's standard coverage!

Interesting, I didn't know that. The heaviest thing I've had on a frozen lake was a sled and that was a long, long time ago. I can't see ever needing to drive my truck on a lake. I used to watch the state troopers in NY do their ice driving course on Saranac Lake, it was pretty funny to watch.

A friend used to have an old beat up Prius that he loved for that reason. He said if he wanted to he could treat the gas pedal like an on/off switch and because the thing was so slow it wouldn't even look like he was driving all that aggressively.

Easier to get out of the sled, though.

Exactly. I was in a truck when it sunk, it could have been real bad.

    That was my thought!
So does insurance cover you if you turtle your truck on a class VI road?
I have a 2020 Sportster 1200 just like this one.

Very true, though taking the leading edge of ice to the chest as the sled goes down doesn't sound fantastic

Good, I don't hate you.

I've never ridden a bike like this before, but its great! I do wish I had forward controls though. I might add them this year.

I have TFCC, so the sport option wasn't viable for me anymore. Too much damage to my wrists. :pout:

It's a fun bike, super peppy! I'm going to toss some pipes on it in the spring, MAYBE some forward controls, and after that, leave it just the way it is.
