I haven't tried brass, but aluminum oxidizes too fast to melt, even tried compressing it.

I feel the same way today!!
Little too early though, I probably wake up at 2:30 AM and not sleep after..
Training was...less than stellar, makes me sleepy often.

Found some photos of the axle wedges the man made. I’ve never met him, he lives in Ohio, a retired, talented machinist I know from a Cub forum. He made a set of these and wanted to add serial numbers. I made him a reverse plate and sent it to him, he sent me the first set with it.

The first Farmall Cub serial # is 501 which is what he stamped in these. These are made from recycled aluminum cans.

Here’s where they go to keep the front from tipping when splitting the tractor to do a clutch job.

He incorporated the plate I made into his mold then stamps the numbers by hand

Did you happen to ask how many aluminum cans it takes to make those? Just curious...I bet quite a few

I’ll see if I can find it, he did say. It’s been a couple years. I do remember him saying when he melts them down and gets the junk out it’s about half of what is melted down.

I vaguely remember melting down some cans before, very long time ago and yes there was amazing amount of crud on top. Those pieces look clean.

That's really cool. All made from aluminum cans. That's well outside my scope.
