We are new to the Sony vs Xbox and I would like to get either the PS5 or the Xbox X ?

Like to have something that would satisfy all 3 of us in the family, especially my 12 daughter.

Open to any and all suggestions on which to buy ?

    Thanks for your input ...

Edit ... We want to do just games ... which is best for that ?

I picked up the Ps5. Never been a Xbox owner. In the past Xbox was trying to be the unified multi media where PS5 was the better gaming. depends what you guys want to use it for

Had a PlayStation 3.....then got an Xbox One S....now I want the PlayStation 5. Vinci makes a good point that Xbox was trying to be your main media hub. That’s not my vibe. I prefer just straight up great gaming. And no I don’t want to get an PC.

I agree with whats been said already. Microsoft wants the Xbox to be everything and I really think they are pushing for the 'all access' game subscription which usually means you're paying for games you don't play. I am a PlayStation guy myself and will buy a console for 1-3 games I play to death. Also, from what i'm reading the PS5 controllers are killer and have haptic feedback that changes depending on what your doing... good little feature.

Picked up a PS5 on launch via Sony PS Direct.

I prefer the PS over Xbox because the exclusive games are MUCH better. I also think the Playstation has better family friendly games, especially at launch (Astro, Sackboy). After trying the new haptic feedback controller, I have to attest it's amazing and puts my old PS4 dual shock controllers to shame.

However, at this point you're going to have a hard time finding either system for sale at retail pricing. Seems like scalpers are using bots to buy up online inventory and selling them for what is currently a going rate of $1200.

    Good luck with your search.

I got my series x at launch and the ps5 was way harder to get . I’ve been trying to get a ps5 since pre orders started but Thursday nov 19 at 4:53 I was able to get one after sitting through the anti bot waiting room set up on PlayStation.coms site . After attempting my purchase on every Walmart and GameStop run . I’ve been playing the series x for a while now but my ps5 will show up next week .

I lucked out, launch times for PS5 was unknown with most retailers so Wednesday midnight ET was only 8pm local time. Tried all the usual retailers but couldn't secure one and wasn't smart enough to log into PlayStation early enough so I got caught in the queue.

However... My brother was able to get in and barely missed getting his on the first batch released around 9pm local time. But was able to get it on the second and last batch released around 9:15/20. Seems like everyone who wanted one was stuck in queue, and everyone who got one couldn't buy another and never closed their browser. So they stayed in stock for 15-20 mins. We went for a Hail Mary and I gave him my login credentials to see if it would kick him back out into queue when he logged out. It didn't. It took a day to ship, and had free 3-4 day shipping and I received it Monday 11/16.

I've heard from lots of people that have been trying harder than I did that it's near impossible to get one and we totally lucked out.

I had to wait in the queue for 48 minutes and when I cleared it was able to get one on nov 19 on the PlayStation site . To anyone that’s trying to get one attempt it at 4-5 pm like I did . Don’t forget to sign in with your gamer tag for free shipping.

With the queues and anti bot captcha authentication I think this way is effective. I’ve been trying since pre orders started and was unable to find one. I heard this method from YouTube.

Report back here if successful so we can gauge if the method is effective .

Did all of the above and still wasn't able to get one. Now i'm thinking of just waiting for bundles to come out probably in the Feb/Mar timeframe. **for PS5

Same here. Tried quite a few times to snag one and never could. I actually only know of two people that managed to get a PS5. Everyone else ran into the same problems. I try to keep an eye out for restocks, but I just don't have the time to devote to hawking retailers, especially when scalpers are just going to buy up most of the stock anyway.

I'm guessing it'll be later than February or March before supply starts to catch up where they are semi-readily available. I just don't have much faith in the retailers doing anything to slow down the scalpers and Sony can only produce so many PS5s at a time.

Either one. I was lucky to get a PS5 from Walmart.com (more on that in a few).

As far as consoles go, it really depends on what you want to play and if you want to play online. I play Destiny 2 almost exclusively and it is night and day difference in how much better it plays on PS5 (and I would assume Xbox also). If you want to play online then you will want to get whichever console that your friends play on. If you don't want to play online then you really can't go wrong with either one.

Now... How to get one. That's the hard part and I'm sorry to say, if you happen to get one, consider yourself extremely lucky. I tried to get one from when the preorders started and was finally able to get it from Walmart.com. This is my advise: Create a browser and have every tab open from every retailer that has them up for sale. You will have to keep an eye open on them all the time. Make sure you have your payment info already supplied in each retailers site. The issue is, you are running against bot spammers and they buy up all the stock as soon as it comes up. There is very little chance that you will be able to beat a computer program. Walmart has put in a new system that detects bot spammers so that is probably your best chance of getting one. If you are lucky and are able to get it into your cart, you still most likely will not be able to get it. But DO NOT take it out of your cart. That was the only way I was able to get the PS5 was because I left it in the cart and when new consoles dropped I hit the "checkout" button probably 50 times and it finally took. Best Buy is kind of the same way but the problem with Best Buy is you will have to drive to whatever store they tell you to pick it up. They will not ship to your house. And you can pretty much forget trying to get it off the official PlayStation store.

They really do exist in the wild. Mine when it first came in

I've been a PS guy my entire life and dropped it for an x box one x a couple years ago since my boys are xbox guys. Won't happen again. I could never get used to the controller or the buttons. Never felt right. We now have the series x and the PS5. The PS5 controller just feels right plus i can play the spider man games again.

I've owned both. From the original Playstation and Xbox and each generation that followed. For the longest time I much preferred the Xbox controller over the Playstation controller until the PS4 came out. Granted, when the PS4 came out I started playing Destiny and started buying Scuf Controllers for the extra buttons on the bottom that mimicked the face buttons (much like the Xbox Elite Controller). I finally ended up using an Astro C40 controller which allowed you to move the thumbsticks from the position of a Playstation controller to that of an Xbox controller but I just couldn't get back into that groove. So I moved them back to the standard position of the Playstation controller. Considering I make money off of running Trials cards each weekend, if you are not playing with a controller that has bottom buttons that correspond with the face buttons, you are at a disadvantage. Unfortunately the new PS5 does not offer an "Elite" controller (Couldn't tell you why?) and the Astro only works on PS4 games. So I've had to retrain myself with playing with a standard controller. I will say that I love the new haptic feedback for the new PS5 controller. I just don't understand why Sony will not offer an Elite controller like Xbox does. They are losing a lot of money to third party controller manufacturers. When a quality third party controller comes out for the PS5 with back buttons I'll be the first in line to pick one up. Being able to keep your thumbs on the sticks while jumping etc... is invaluable when playing in a game mode such as Trials in D2.

Yeah, that's been the knock on Sony for this PS5, lack of elite controller. I'm not 'advanced' enough to need one.

I've gotten used to it though I don't like it.

This is one of the carries that I recorded. The max you can get to is 5500 in the Glory playlist (where your power matters). So I run a lot of carries for other people.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRV69kWdkmM&feature=youtu.be

This is usually how I practice in a private match. I've been playing with him for almost 7 years now and we are both 5500 players and he is one of the hardest for me to play against due to the way that he plays his subclass.

Up to you but some people's takes are outdated, xbox stopped trying to be the multimedia hub right after the launch of xbox one when people got pissed immediately at launch. That being said, 3rd party app support is better on xbox because it is running on the same architecture as a pc so you get better stability. Sony has the best exclusive games, I'll probably get both systems myself, a ps5 for ratchet and clank specifically. The winner for a family though is Xbox game pass because it has a little everything, games for the kids and adults for $15/month. Games can be hit or miss, game pass takes some if the pain of buying a $60 game and it not living up to expectations away and all the xbox studio exclusives are available on day1. Sony doesn't have anything close. I cycle through games with the kids, plants vs zombies, overcooked, slime rancher, no man's sky, madden, nhl, starwars, all part of game pass.
