Easiest Installed Headers for 3.4L 1st Gen *Suggestions Needed*

Hey Everyone,

I know there are several threads out there with various recommendations as to which headers people are using, but I really wanted to be specific with what I am looking to do. I've got a 2002 5VZ-FE and am looking to put some headers to get more HP (not sound). With that being said...is there a direct bolt-on header set that doesn't require any cutting/welding??? What all are you running on your rigs? I've looked a little bit at some JBA, Doug Thorley, and TRD kits (I know they're discontinued and pop up on eBay from time to time). Are there any other parts/accessories that I need to consider in order to make the install be worth it? I know that some headers include O2 sims, but I am a little rusty on what that means. Is it a plug-in that acts like an O2 sensor so that you don't get have a CEL come on? I need some education here fellas, since you all know more about these things than I do. I had to cut my cross over pipe to get it out. Once cut it came out perfectly, factory should have had a flange here.

I haven't installed just headers as a performance mod, but I've had a truck with SC and headers. I honestly don't think the headers are worth the 10hp for the money/pita of install.

I would recommend just saving up for the blower/fuel mods. Best bolt on option for these trucks. Easier to install with much better gains.

 

My Taco has like 245k on it, so I'm concerned that a SC would be a little too much stress on it at this point. Am I wrong with believing this?

 

If the engine is in good condition you should be fine. There is one dude on here with 600k miles and SC.

I have 230k on my 96 and boosting 10.5psi with a turbo right now. I did have it up to 12 with the blower and turbo. Its all in the tune.

Lately I've been wondering about headers, too.
I came across this but don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. If one were to add headers, will the computer retune gas/ air ratio itself?
