Hey all. I had my Tacoma in for my every 5,000 mile oil change and asked the service rep about lube. He said he didn’t think there were any. True or false?
    If so how many? Thanks

The newer trucks have sealed bearings, being old school, it’s not my preference, however, it is what it is.

With zerks most way, way over grease, blown out seals and the glob of grease squeezed out attracts mud and dirt. On my equipment I spend way more time cleaning around the greased joint and zerk than actual time spent greasing.

What I find concerning is the tech said “he didn’t think there were any.” Seems like something he should know.

Was this the Tech or the Service Advisor?
    There is a difference

Service Advisors are hit and miss. Some are just Salesman working in the service bay.

As of June/July 2016, all 4x4s shipped with non-greasable rear driveshafts. The front driveshaft is still greasable.

2wd are sealed and not greaseable.

    Yup,
you can also tell your service rep about it, they either act surprised or look at you like you are crazy.

Kind of thought the same after my first service visit. This guy didn't even know what air pressure these trucks are suppose to have when i asked him about the harsh suspension ride. :frusty: Told him the air pressure was fine when i checked before the 1st service visit. Well he refer himself as a service writer not the actual tech that would be looking at my truck.

I think it depends on the u-joints they (Toyota) have on hand at the time.
The 2nd Gen trucks started out have zerks, by the end of the 2nd Gens not many were rolling out of the factory with them. Although some did.

Crawl under and look. If you have them - Good.
If not, no big deal. Replace them as needed. Which will likely be far down the road.

Yours should be the same as shakerhood posted above. More peeps replying when they dont have the same year truck as you and or guessing. My 19, same year as yours, has 2 zerks on the front driveshaft ujoints. None on the rear. And none on any of the front steering gear areas. (tie rod ends, etc).
