What gear do you find vital for those of you that take your taco to places where the roads (or no roads?) are less than pristine. For conversations sake; Where do you go, what do you carry, why do you carry it, where do you stow it daily....

Some examples; fuel cans, air compressor, straps/tow/kinetic ropes, wench, ball hitch, tire chains, chainsaw, tools, first aid, flame thrower, and so on

See that you are new here, so welcome.

Do have to say that you are asking a very broad question. Very.

    1) there are dozens, if not hundreds, of threads on the topic already

    2) to narrow things down, ask for ideas on how YOU plan on using the truck.

We also don't know your skill sets. Some 'overlander' types can't change their own oil, much less make an actual field repair. What your experience entails somewhat dictates the value of what you carry.

IE for some folks a cell phone, AAA card and CC are all that's needed. Others view themselves as survivalists, and they need more stuff. Most of us fall somewhere in between the two extremes.

As you have said, I am somewhere in between. While it is a broad topic I was hoping to get a broad array of answers. Someone who lives where the snow/ice falls might be carrying something different than someone closer to the equator. Also true that gear does not mean you have the skills/knowledge to use the equipment. However what I was hoping to gleam was what should I throw in the cab/bed to get me out of most situations. I have yet to take my new to me 2017 SR5 anywhere truthfully isolated. But I do live down an unplowed 5mi gravel road that I drive daily to the highway. If it matters I am an "approaching off the grid homesteader" that can take care of most things. Especially if I have a manual or the google machine.

I carry full turnout gear, fire extinguishers and a trauma kit, but that's for just driving on the regular roads. :)

Too much to name for this little space
Don't mind Clearwater, some of the TW "veterans" with posts in the 10k range get tired of answering the same question so they try to make OP (you) research an already-posted thread or change your question. But here's what I run with my access cab:

    Cab
    - air compressor
    - tow strap
    - jumper cables
    - shackles
    - gloves (work and warm)
    - crank radio
    - kobalt tool kit
    - fak
    - log splitting knife
    - foldable shovel
    - tomahawk
    -bugout bag

    Bed
    - 12k winch- receiver
    - 1 gallon gas can

I can say I've used everything except the fak and the tow cable but I wanted my truck to be more of a save others or gtfo if shtf
