Hey everyone, been lurking for the past couple months and just made an account today. My wife and I live in Pittsburgh PA with my 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro and her 2020 4Runner Venture Edition. Really excited to get into this and want to have my truck g2g for some trails when it warms up outside. I’ve decided on lifting my Tacoma enough to fit 285/75R16 tires with either AT3s or KO2s and need some advice on how to go about it. From what I’ve read I can fit that no problem with an AAL and 1.5 shim and diff drop kit. I don’t want to sacrifice any off road ability and I’m not especially concerned with ride quality on the road, it would be nice to not brake my ass on bumps though. Not super attached to my stock Pro suspension as I could probably recoup a good bit of what I spend on an all new one. My concern is the factory ride height up front already being 1-2” higher than other Tacomas which would me an a 3” lift up front would only be a 1-2” higher than stock. Sorry this is so long, hope I’m not posting in the wrong place. Look forward to getting to know you all!

Hey Pittsburgh folks! Got only the front lift and all 4 tires done yesterday. Waiting on leaf pack and rear shocks to arrive. Is there a good way to get in touch with people around here who meet up? I haven’t had much luck finding good off road areas, even mild ones would be very welcome. Hope to see you all at some point!

    Welcome!
You may not need that body chop. I ran 285/70/17's for years with a 2.5" lift on my Gen2 and it never rubbed once.
Those 285/75/16's are only 0.1" taller. Guess it may depend on the wheel offset.

In the limited searches I’ve done, I have not found any public off road locations in western PA. I did find one thread somewhere where a few people met up out near Farmington, but that even sounded like a pretty limited experience for them. Unfortunately in this area, it sounds like you almost need to know someone that has a farm or many many acres of land to do any off roading.

I think you’re right. At the shop they tried really hard to make it rub but wouldn’t do it. Saving money on the chop is what let me get a whole leaf pack instead of the AAL haha.

awesome! You know any good trail spots? I’ve seen some videos of people just getting lost In Allegheny national forest and finding some pretty mild but fun trails there.

that really is how it seems. Being from CA I’m used to the open desert and mountains to do whatever the hell you want so this is a change. I downloaded “gaia gps” and “onX offroad” because a guy at the shop said that’s how he finds all his trails and camping spots around here. Said he’s planning a 3 day overlanding trip he found through PA, VA and WV without touching any real roads. Had no idea that was even possible but it’s all mapped out with notes and guidance on gaia
