I grew up in SoCal - really expensive no grass tons of fun stuff to do enjoy visiting

I've been to Las Vegas a lot - hot as hell 8 months out of the year no way I would live there

Spent 6 years in Delaware - Rehoboth Beach in Delaware is cool - Ocean City Maryland is fun in the summer - must love the smell of chicken houses

South Carolina has been home for the last 25 years. Love it here. Upstate has all four seasons but everyone wants to live up there now. You have
the hills and mountains. Midland is hot as hell in the summer and you have to deal with all the sorry ass Lamecock fans. I live near the coast in the
Charleston area and love it. Downtown Charleston is the restaurant mecca of the south. So many places to eat so many places to drink. Some of the
best beaches on the East Coast. Finally bought a boat and I'm glad I did. But house prices and property taxes are soaring just like every where else.

Leaving June 1st. Heading east and starting in West Virginia. From there checking out Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. Got a lot of great input from everyone on here and other places I asked. Personally trying to escape brutal hot summers and I enjoy snowy winters so looking around the Great Lakes area. State of Denial? Absolutely!

you sound just like me....so DON'T choose Ohio!!! Born and raised Central Ohioan, and it is pretty much stupid humid and hot summers, and balmy winters anymore...

we are looking to move up to MI for retirement...Wisconsin would be cool too, but too far from family

will be interesting to see what you find

Interesting. Haven't been there before but was looking around Akron area or south. I was under the assumption the summers were hot but not terrible? Average highs of like 90? Where I am in Oregon we get about 3 solid months of 100-110 and 100% smoke last few years. Can't be worse than that.

true...and the Akron area gets more snow then we do...but the summers are still 90-100 and 110% humidity...used to be lots of factory/rubber smoke up that way...you could try the "Eire Snowbelt" area between Cleveland and Erie PA for better winters. But WI and MI are probably better backcountry and scenery

I grew up 15 min west of Akron.

Ohio is pretty depressed so it should be easy to find a "cheap" house. You'll be driving to get places, you may have neighbours (5+ acres away) that burn their trash and poison ivy... but it's "cheap". Cleveland (and its suburbs), Brunswick, Akron/Canton and surrounding areas should be more than enough to give you business.

Start investing in Fluid Film though. Your truck will rust away very quickly. DO NOT pay a place to undercoat your vehicle like Ziebart.

Yea seems like every state out east salts the hell out of the roads. Time to buy fluid film in 5 gal buckets...

    An adventure for sure.

Good luck escaping the summer heat in the continental US. I think all localities have the chance of getting up there in temps and humidity at least for a few day stretches at a time.

My house is 1,000 ft ASL in the White Mountains of NH- we get the occasional 90-100 heat waves. We had a cottage on the coast of MA, same deal.

I think temps just gonna keep on creeping up in my lifetime...

I agree the Great Lakes are spectacular. Had I realized this 30 years ago, I could have ended up north of Duluth!

Good Luck  Looking forward to more updates :D

Fair warning.... I’m completely biased! My family has been in NC since the 1750’s and I truly love my state. I’ve lived in a few other places though due to my military service. I also love Florida (since I love saltwater fishing) and plan to move there when I retire.

Camp/hike, explore forest roads. Read, tv, video games. Start projects and not finish them haha. I'll look those places up! Thanks for the heads up.

Also I love that this thread was dormant for weeks and weeks and all it took was 1 person throwing out another idea and all of a sudden tons of people commenting again. Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Lived in S. Wisconsin my whole life & at age 48 I am ready to cash out & move far west to N. Idaho, Utah or MT hopefully in the next year or so. I love the 4 season's WI gives but the winters are so pitiful now & I hate the hot/humid summers. Other negatives is the cost of living! It is ridiculous. Anywhere south of Wausau property taxes are crazy especially if you live near a city. Home values are over inflated so bad as well. Unfortunately our state is run by a bunch of idiots currently. I feel like I am paying for all the deadbeats that work the system & our elected officials are just fine with it. Not trying to get political but it has gotten terrible in the last few years here. If I had to stay in the midwest I would move to the UP near Copper Harbor & run a AirBnB. Huge market for that currently.
