Just bought a 2012 trdpro that’s only seen the Highway. Planning on building it to replace my 3rd gen 4Runner. Would like to run a minimum 35” tire. Eventually front locker and maybe a crawl box (have more research to do). We mainly wheel in snow/mud, logging roads. But would like to get into more rock crawling and a trip or two to the dunes. Any suggestions on a lift? Would like to do the Marlin rclt but can’t wait years to use this vehicle. So I’ve been looking at the JD kits after reading almost all of @81Trekker s thread. Any advice is appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!

You’ve got a TX Pro there and it looks clean. The TRD Pro’s started in 2015.

Forgot to mention I don’t want to run glass fenders. The manzanita around here would tear them up.

This is going to be good. Hopefully you have deeeeeep pockets because these things get expensive to build. Can't wait to see the progress.

I've been running the JD +2.25 kit for a couple months now and it's awesome. Super beefy, truck drives great, and off road is mind blowing. I'm running 37s with the setup. I would highly recommend just making it easy on yourself and basically ordering everything JD makes for your truck.

I have a video on YouTube about the front suspension build process, as well as some pictures in my build thread if you want.

You can get away without glass with the 2.25 kit, which is what most guys are doing, just cutting the fenders up higher

@WormSquirts What did you end up doing for the rear? I would love to do sua for the travel and ride while running logging roads. But afraid I would lose too much ground clearance for everything else we do.

Currently running a 63 swap with 16" shocks through the bed. However I am going to be changing that up. It flexes amazingly, and the ride is much better than stock, but it doesn't have enough up travel to keep up with the front anymore. I'm still a bit torn on what I want to do honestly, same kind of position as you. But I think I will likely end up with JD/ @81Trekker 's Sua kit, if I don't decide to just link it, but there's a lot more work that goes with that. I know their Sua kit flexes really well, but of course you lose clearance under the axle.

You can’t go wrong with the JD kit. Travel numbers for the 2.25 kit are dipping into the 3.5 kit territories. The sealed uniballs and greaseable ball joints would definitely be a plus for you if you were in snow and mud. Short story is they have a quality part and great customer service. Don’t waste your time with RCLT. Go enjoy your truck. @81Trekker can get you going in that department. They’re also releasing a sua kit. Personally I’ve ran sua for some time, similar to what you’re after. I kind of wanted middle ground of everything. Yes the ground clearance is a factor, but use bigger tires and choose your lines differently. You have to learn to drive on top of obstacles instead of over them. I haven’t done any crazy rock crawling, as it’s never been my priority, but sua did fine for me in Moab. I only hit the shock mount and leaf pack one, while on 33s.

I could of swore I already wrote this but @WormSquirts how much trimming did you have to do for 37s? That’s actually the tire size I would like to run.
And what are you running for the rear? I would love to run sua for the travel and ride on logging roads and at speed but am afraid I would lose too much ground clearance for all the other wheeling we do.

edit: now that I wrote this I see you responded to my reply but I can not see my reply anywhere. I must not be up to speed on how this forum operates ‍

the sua might just be the option I go with then. I know I don’t want to cut through the bed. Need that space for all of our crap and the dog. Trying to be able to off-road camp with this thing as well and the boys and wife come with allot of baggage lol

JD fab’s sua kit is paired with 14in shocks under the bed.

JD fab is making a wheel well replacement kit as well that should fit 37s pretty easily and make it a lot easier. Still in design phase though I'm pretty sure

Even 35s to take full advantage of the suspension will need rubbing and clearancing
