I am suppose to met another Tacoma owner this weekend to buy his oem tri-fold tonneau cover and do the bed rail swap. Unfortunately it is going to be below freezing in the mid to low 20s. is there any risk in breaking the clips on the bed rails? Has anyone removed the bed rails in freezing temperatures?

Thanks I can take mine off now as my truck is in my garage. Unfortunately, the person I am swapping with didn't want to.

You talking the caps, or the rails? Guess Im not familiar enough with the 3rd gen cover to know exactly what you are talking about.

But at any rate, I would say there is some risk. Maybe not too bad given the plastic probably isnt too old, but still.. You could try a little WD40 on the clips before you pop them, if you can access them. That should help the plastic slide rather than catch

Thanks. I am talking about the plastic bed rail caps. They run the length of the bed and have a dozen or so clips holding them in.

I've never removed the bed rails, but your concerns are real, cold temps will make most composites stiff and maybe brittle.
