    Hey guys!

    Is a 1GR-FE from a 2011 Tacoma compatible with 2008 Tacoma?

I'm looking for low mileage used engine and I found a 2011 1GR-FE with low miles but wanted to know if it is compatible with the older Tacomas. Mine is an '08 with the 1GR-FE.

I've searched, and I've seen a few different answers. Some say yes, some say its a wiring nightmare. So I'm hoping someone has 1st hand experience here.

Asking because my engine is kaput and I'm looking for a used replacement. I don't want to debate used vs rebuild here, just wanting to know the compatibility of the new engine with my older Tacoma.

    Thanks!

I’m no toyota engineer but I’m pretty sure that engine is the same... but dont listen to me I haven’t even lifted my truck yet. Lol

It's the same engine - there's some additional emissions equipment on the '12-15 1GR-FEs, but otherwise that's really it for differences across 2nd gen Tacomas.

To add - there may be a slightly different tune to the '12-15s because of the additional emissions stuff.

Ok so it's the '12+ that had the change. Cool. IDK why, but I thought the emissions stuff change was '11+.

    Thank you sir!
