Plug is full of shavings as well. These are the bigger pieces the one round one has some imprints on it.

Could just be bits not fully flushed during manufacture. I'd probably pull the drain plug in 10k to reevaluate.

is there any visibility through the drain or fill plug holes that using a borescope/videoscope would be worthwhile? Not necessarily asking for OP/this case, just for general knowledge. Seems like a relevant place to ask.

Looks like chips left from the machining process. The round piece is the disc that a drill makes as it breaks through the metal.

There's quite a bit of fully destroyed shavings, this is the only recognized piece.

I have no sound or symptoms btw, just bored and decided to swap front/rear/tcase

was thinking the same. the ribbons look like they could have also been from a drilling process, or a facing/cutting process. There could be situations where similar kinds of things could be created if things were going very wrong, though. A few rotating metal parts in close proximity to stationary metal parts.

    You could worry about it.
But more than likely, warranty won’t cover it until there is an issue.
I don’t think Toyota is going to do anything if it “operates as normal”.

Sure, I’d be a bit concerned.
But what can you do? Other than tear it apart and start looking?
I’ll pass on that until I have a reason.
It may last 100’s of Thousands of miles. After all you are doing more maintenance than most at 30k.

    Good work on the maintenance:thumbsup:

Here's majority of the large pieces as you can see there's a bunch of twisted bits. The magnet is filled with fine debris.

They are 100% chips from machining.

I'm not overly concerned as I have no issues or problems currently (knock on wood) however it is startling to see pieces that large come out of a new vehicle!

    Check your diffs people

Those a classic drilling/machining chips by appearance. Curled, ripping/tearing along edges, parallel tool marks. Thats what I would put my $ on.

You’re totally OK. Those are indeed left-overs from machining the housing, and aren’t from a failure. It’s more common than many realize to find on the first drain.

The fine metal shavings normal and no concern.
As others stated sure does look like chips left in from machining process (the bigger chips)

There will always be fines on the magnet.

    Agreed. Swap driveline stuff early.
