Hello. I have a 2021 TRD OR with a manual trans. I’ve noticed at times I can feel or here the abs actuator/pump kick on.. I’ve worked on cars for 19 years at nissan and never experienced this before. It doesn’t lock up my brakes or anything it just simply can be felt through the brake pedal that is has kicked on abs you can also hear it (my ear is also trained for noises). So it may not be noticeable to most people... has anyone else have has this?

I think you're referring to the brake booster in the OR

How can any of us untrained savages hear something only a trained ear can hear?

Lol it's not ABS. It's the booster, which only comes on the Pro and Off Road. The other models have standard brakes.

Rather than a vacuum driven brake booster, the OR and Pro use an electric hydraulic pump with an pressure accumulator.
It is assumed that this creates higher braking force than a vacuum booster and is required for restraining wheel spin for ATRAC, MTS, Crawl Control, etc in 4Lo.

Also of note is that normal rear braking is entirely electro-hydraulic and not mechanical. So the pedal force from your foot (amplified via the hydraulic boost system) is directly pressurizing only fluid to the front calipers while the rear drums are completely "brake-by-wire". This means the hydraulic power system is constantly in use during normal driving. The hydraulic accumulator maintains system pressure for all the normal braking functions and drops with each application of the brakes so after a couple times the pump runs to re-pressurize the accumulator.
