I think I may already know the answer, but just wanted to get a feel from the folks here.
“Ordered” an Off-road DCSB from a GM (friend of a relative) from a local dealer the last week of Nov. Gave me a price with a trade and said he would honor the finance rate we agreed on whenever the truck arrived. Was told probably 2-3 month wait which I was fine with at the time.
Fast forward to now. During this whole time frame I’ve received ONE call from a salesman who was nice enough to help when I couldn’t get thru to the GM. That was 1/8. Told truck would be built end of Jan and arrive end of Feb/ early March. Perfect.
Called same salesman last week, said he would send printout of the truck. Wrong color/options. Had a build date of 2/2 (today).
Long story..call back, talk to salesman, talk to GM on Sunday..”let me look into it, call ya tomorrow”. It’s now Tuesday and not a word. I’m not calling back chasing a salesman/GM. I’ve done enough of that.
Recently I found a similar truck from an out of state dealer who I’m calling to discuss price. Truck is set to hit the dealer next week. If I get a decent deal, I’m going with the new dealer.
I feel kind of bad (my good natured side) because the GM is a friend of a relative but this process doesn’t seem right and to be honest, kinda stressful. I’m not obligated to the original deal I’m assuming? Nothing was signed.
Thanks and sorry for the long post

The OP didn't state if any paperwork was signed. If it was just a verbal agreement then I agree the OP is not obligated. If a contract was signed, was does the paperwork say about backing out of the deal? Also not stated was if any deposit was given.

    Like, so many.
Doesn't sound like they were real eager to have you as a customer anyway. You're not obligated.

They defeated the whole purpose of special ordering a truck if they couldn’t get the color right or the options right. Go get the truck you want.

Find the deal/truck that's right for you. It doesn't sound like your GM contact went out of his/her way to help you especially, with the color order goof. They should have contacted you, apologized, and offered to fix the issue. They're probably really busy and didn't mean anything personal by it. Don't lose sleep over it, dealers sell hundreds of cars every month.

    No contract. No deposit.

If a contract was signed with truck details and dealer is getting a truck that doesn't match the contract, then broken contact.

    Not obligated.

Find what you want, buy it, be happy.

Never met a GM that was not a lying dirtbag. Don't worry about it.

It's not like they're doing you a favor by allowing you to order a vehicle. It's a business transaction and you haven't signed papers.

If you found the truck you want, then contact either the salesman or GM and get your deposit back. They will sell that truck, or trade it to another dealership for another vehicle.

The truck they ordered will sell, probably for more than you were going to pay. Get the truck you want.
