Does anyone else's seatbelt lock up 4 or 5 times while trying to put it on or is it just me? I'm not jerking it forward or anything and I've never had this problem until I got my tacoma. I've tried it at all the different heights you can adjust it to and it still happens. what gives?

Are you trying to put it on while on a hill or with the truck parked at any kind of slope? Are you pressing the brake while putting it on? Are you driving while trying to put it on?

in a level parking lot every morning and afternoon, car is in park, sometimes foot on the brake sometimes not. It happens every time I put the seatbelt on, maybe it's because I'm left handed and reach back with my left instead of reaching across with my right?

Possibly. Belt systems are more and more sensitive pulling with your left hand the initial movement has a smaller moment arm which would increase velocity as well as would bring the belt away from your body more than across it, try using your right crossing over or just go really slow and see what happens.

I totally understand! The word is unfortunately inconsiderate of lefties!

Just another thing you'll have to do offhanded.

Unless you move to a country where they drive on the right side of the car.

I grew up in one and when I'm tired I still reach over the wrong shoulder for the belt and bump my elbow into the door reaching for the gearshift.

Shifting left handed is still more natural to me even though I'm primarily right handed.

I must have some ambidextrousness though as I natural do some things left handed or forget what hand I'm supposed to use but then I can only write right handed.

As for the belt, yeah there's a clock spring ratchet mechanism with little weakly spring loaded teeth and if the belt is pulled too fast centrifugal force causes them to sling out and catch the belt drum, and there's also a ball bearing that sits in a little depression of the belt ratchet and if the truck isn't level within a few degrees that ball won't sit where it has to and if it's not there the belt will also go into retract only mode.

I have the same problem. Opening the door usually unlocks it. I am right handed.

Pull slooower. My wife tries to yank it fast as it locks every time. After three or four attempts she finally figures it out.
