Winch connector first. Partial letter blackout. Partial emblem removal. Rear bed opening stabilizer. Tailgate insert panel that smoothed it out. Raised seats. K&N air filter. Alpine sound system (no sub-woofer). LED interior lights. Front end leveled. Pedal Commander. Rear headrest delete. Drivers side grab handle. Blue SumoSpring bumpers front/rear.
I'm taking delivery of a 2021 TRD in a couple of weeks. Dealer ruined my '06 (254,000 mis) wiring harness and ECU during service and settled for $9,500. On my '06 I had a winch QD installed directly on the battery terminals and mounted under the hood. No fuse or shutoff. My winch is a Warn Axon 55S (5,500 lbs.) set up for trailer hitch attachment.

I'm concerned with the Gen 3 electrical system and a direct QD connection at the battery. I could easily fab up a set of 30ft super jumper cables using 0 gauge welding wire and 800amp parrot beak jumper cable clamps for the battery.

    -or-

Can I direct wire a similar under hood mount the QD like I did on my '06?

Patience here is appreciated. I will have more questions.

I have a smittybilt x20.. Straight to battery. No issues. Most I have seen also go straight to battery, though there is a guy on here who sells a disconnect switch

I'm curious about what exactly the dealer did

Mike - Best as I can get out of them. Pinched the harness (more like abused it) and broke a couple of wires and/or a clip off the end. Tried to run some wiring - battery still connected - around breaks and shorted the entire thing out.

Too old to get replacement harness. Easier to pay me off.

I would direct wire it under hood with a QD. (I dont expect you will have any problems if you also run your ground to the battery directly.) I have an anderson connector that lives under the hood hooked to my secondary battery, with a MLACR tied into the main battery.

(I would also personally add a 300 MRBF fuse too... I carry a spare fuse, and can always manually bypass the fuse if I have a super massive pull that keeps blowing it repeatedly, but I prefer to have the safety of having the circuit fused when in use... But I have never blown the fuse with lighter pulls.)
