MOAB Overland/Hiking Help/Reccomendations

Hi everyone,

Eastcoaster here planning a trip out to Moab. Thinking a 2-3 trip. We like to hike (a lot) so we don't just want to be driving. The goal is to drive to overland to places we can explore. There is so much material for Moab I am feeling lost where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

 

Get a Moab trail guidebook. Look at Canyonlands NP areas. That should fill your 2-3 days up. Too many options to mention so spend some time looking for what you like to do and see.

 

Ive literally only ever heard people talk about overlanding/off roading in Moab on this forum, I assume there is also plenty of hiking and on foot adventuring?

 

for hiking...let's see. look at any of the following...some of them also depend on what time of year you're going. right now, it's way too cold and can have snow so some of these trails CAN be dangerous.
"Corona arch". This is the arch that people used to rope swing off of. DO NOT DO THAT. People have died and it's technically illegal now to do it. Just down the colorado a few miles.
"grandstaff canyon" (it used to be called a different name so you might see it called by its old name). just up the colorado river a few miles.
"mesa arch" (especially for sunrise) inside canyonlands
"syncline loop" in canyonlands (but it is a long one and be prepared for some serious vert and bring loads of water)
"mill creek/left hand fork" little waterfall and river hike. loads of fun. just outside the main part of town.
"delicate arch". inside arches. world famous. loads of fun. nighttime hike is also popular because the daytime gets hot and crowded
"double arch". also inside arches. you'd recognize it from Indiana Jones.

these are just some of the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

if you are a mountain biker, this is a mecca for mountain biking so you could definitely find tons of biking trails. also rentable bikes.

 

Yeah, Moab outside of the parks is def more of a bike haven than hiking.

 

Yes. There are more hiking trails than you could imagine. Just start reading....

 

Tons of opportunity for hiking. Any of the suggestions will be fun to explore. And the whole southern Utah area offers a lot too if you’re not committed to just the Moab area. Enjoy the trip!
