Same reason I’m taking Monday afternoon off when I take delivery of the boat. Spend two hours breaking in the outboard per Mercs handbook. Then following Mercury’s recommendation for the next 8 hours of no WOT for more than 5 minutes at a time.

the 5k service doesn’t change the oil. Is only a tire rotation and fluid check. It also has synthetic from the factory.

Complete waste. Synthetic is generally good for 10-15k. I tend to run on the higher end of that number :anonymous:

If it’s leaky like my GX just keep topping it off. It’s forever got fresh oil!

It's not that I care about the lubricating ability of the oil. But if you actually research oils what breaks down are the detergents and other additives that help suspend and prevent cavitation, and so on. For someone that just goes to and froe on the hwy daily that may be ok. But for someone that actually hard uses their vehicle and is on the rev limiter offroading, dusty environments constantly, and mixed driving constantly I'll stick with my 3-5k. Also even amsoil with their super long extended oil change intervals recc filter changes regularly. If you fill that filter up the bypass valve opens and you are doing nothing but circulating contaminated oil.
Nah I just sat through several weekends with many different oil companies engineers and they all explained the same thing I posted above. Different uses require different intervals it isn't as simple blanket everyone is the same.

yeah I totally get it. I’m lazy and had free oil changes to up 60k so I didn’t go out of my way to change it before 10k.

I’m actually due for one. I also only use SuperTech or Amazon Basics oil...whatever is cheaper at the time.

get it in the air. Easier to get the kids in/out when you don’t have to bend over/down as much.
