The raptor is a full size wide and long desert runner.

the Tacoma is a short and narrow compact pickup.

they don’t compete. It’s like saying the focus RS is as close as you can get to a lada. They’re both cars sure but they’re in completely different classes. There’s no competition between them.

Hard to compete when I never see Raptors on the trail in AZ.

    Jeep’s, on the other hand...

The Raptor he's comparing it to is the Ranger Raptor, which, like the Hilux, is not available in the US.

    Yes, please!

Power comes from the standard-fit four-cylinder 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine with 201 horsepower and an ample 500 Newton-meters (369 pound-feet) of torque from 1,600 rpm.

That article's headline is "It's the closest thing to Toyota having a Ford Ranger Raptor rival in Europe."

    Ranger Raptor people.

Sucks Europe and Australia get a lot of cool stuff we don't.

Mostly because of suburbia moms and men who should be turning in their man cards because they buy trucks as a fashion statement and compensation (pavement princesses).

How'd you end up comparing the Tacoma to an F-150 from an obvious clickbait article about a Hilux vs a Ranger?

Didn't I read, somewhere lately, Toyota was the Market Leader in mid-size truck sales????

That alone says Toyota understands the needs/wants of the buying market.

I'd think the Ford Ranger Raptor would be striving to compete with Toyota, not the other way around.

Although, I am curious about the Ford name convention......Is it ranger, a raptor (bird), cowboy, poser????? WTF is it?

Ah, so then he basically jumped on the headline without actually clicking the link. Don't know which is worst.

Meh, AT is like the Roush of Toyotas. Only they build for long distance trekking instead of speed.

While I like the idea of a performance pickup, it's not anything I would wast my money on.

How can you compare a Tacoma to a Ranger Raptor ?
If Toyota wants to compete fairly with the Ranger then they need to let their reliability go to hell like Ford does so they can level the field.
They need to start making a vehicle that has recalls on it before the first one ever left the factory like Ford did with the Ranger.
I remember the service manager saying they didn't want to have anymore delays on their release when the new Rangers were coming out so they just stuck the customers with the recalls.
There were a lot of snickers in the Ford garage when that came out. Did anyone notice how they just sat on the lots and everyone was passing on them for the F150. That's not saying much for the F150s either.
Toyota would need to make a engine like the Rangers Turbo Charged junk Eco Boost 4 banger to have any chance of being like a Ranger. I was seeing those engine's being replaced with 20000 miles. How many miles are you getting out of a Tacoma?
Can the Tacoma compete with the Ranger ? I'm thinking why would they want to lower their standards like that.
I used to work for a Ford stealership. We also sold Jeep Gladiators. Cant say much nice about them either. Stick with your Tacoma's.
