a good mechanic has NO brand loyalty

the dealer no less owes U nothing.................he is simply a middle man to the prev owner & U

find U a damn good mechanic in a damn good shop if U are NOT

going to do things as simple as an oil change

line mechanics everywhere have fooookd up quite a bit

Just so you know the oil dipstick on the 2.7 is kinda wonky, to check it good the engine needs to be off for several hours or overnight. Or it gets oil smeared all down it if you check it hot. Also mine reads dead on full with 5.5 qts and a filter change even though the capacity says 6.1 qts or whatever.
Sounds like you got the leak fixed, but if it's still there it could be coming from the valve cover in that area also. Might try washing the engine down with degreaser, if you keep the truck along time you'll thank yourself when you can work on it and not get completely covered in grime.

everyone should swipe the dipstick for a reasonable / accurate read

no less the residual oil left in the upper engine is minute

cut an engine off................minutes later most is back n sump

unless there is varnish / sludge blocking return passages

most engines have adequate upper engine drain or essentially one couldnt drive down the hiway !!!!

no less many are sooooooo ‘ anal ‘ over the tenths of oil in various locations

anything more than a whole quart is basis for concern

most designs have at least the same amount oil in sumps that is circulating in the engine

to cool & reconstitute an adequate amount of lubricant

I think the problem is with the shape of the dipstick tube on the 2.7s when you pull the dipstick and wipe and and stick it back in oil can sometime be several inches over the fill mark due to it getting all in the tube and then all over the dipstick from pulling it out the first time. Maybe the 2.7 dipstick tube is better on 3rd gens but that how my 2nd gen and the other 2.7 2nd gen I've worked on are.
