What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I just finished a complete intake clean out on my 2.7l. It all started with a simple Throttle Position Switch replacement due to hesitation issues and turned into a much longer and bigger project. Don't they all!

Here is what it looked like at the start:

I made a radius ended scraper tool to remove the heaviest of the deposits.


Here are all the deposits I was able to scrape out:


I then used a combination of brake cleaner (being sure to close intake valves first on each cylinder prior), purple power degreaser and a pressure washer (only on the manifold) to clean the rest. Cleaned the TB and replaced the EGR valve and TPS too.

Sorry no after pics but everything was spotless and shiny after. I took some after pics but somehow lost them (might have something to due with all the brake cleaner fumes I inhaled).

I installed a catchcan to help prevent future build up.

 

Got an oem b pillar trim piece and new diff lock sticker for the double cab today. Can’t believe some of these trim pieces are still in stock

 

Leave it white, it will reflect heat better, and it doesn't look that bad.

 

If you don’t mind me asking, what lift set up are you running? I’m getting those exact tires put on tomorrow. Had 2 sets of these Yokohama m/T’s on my 5th gen 4Runner.

 

Dropped the truck off for ome full setup with 882 coils, and some new shoes... can’t wait.

Yep, done it recently. You can throw the relays wherever they fit really. There are generally a few extra threaded holes on the side walls of the engine compartment. Any of those is fine. I happened to have circuits available in my Bussmann, so I didn't need the standalone relays.

I do recommend running the harness as I did in my post though. Very convenient and out-of-the-way spot.

I'm doing this along with a bunch of other stuff to mine right now

I have the engine harness off to reloom, heat wrap and support it with some loop end deals since some of the plastic ones are gone

As well as an egr delete, and removing superperfolus hoses like the ones for coolant through the egr and throttle body and the steering idle up valve

Going to see what I need I do to run the old school style charcoal canister too just to clear up the engine bay

 

Got the height dialed in.

 

What’s a stock intake tube with uncut air box worth? Anyone need one before I post it in the buy/sell.

 

Lol they’re not too bad, I did sound deaden the 4Runner though.. Actually found them incredible in winter conditions too. I took my winters off to run these year round

couple of questions for people:

anyone have experience doing the timing belt/water pump maintenance and replacing the rack and pinion? both need doing, the timing belt is just coming up on it's interval and the rack and pinion has a decent leak and needs new bushings anyways. Both of these are a bit out of what i think i could do right now, but then again so was my suspension work when I bought the truck but I jumped in and didn't have any issues. Just wondering how involved it is and whether it's worth having a shop take care of or whether I ought to be able to do it myself.

Also, does anyone have recommendations on where to go for a new E-brake cable? I've looked at Rockauto and Orielly's but neither seem to have OEM ASIN parts so im kind of stuck between either the Orielly's "BrakeBest" or an ACDelco from Rockauto. Also, I keep seeing things for front, rear, right, left, etc. which one do I need? feel kinda stupid asking but not as stupid as I would buying the wrong part.
