Anyone else ever towed a uhaul car trailer with the Taco?? Felt like the Tacoma was near its max and doing the calculations it was 1000lbs below its limit but didn't feel good rolling down the interstate.

I look at that max rating as what the engineers figure is possible without damaging the drive train. Which is way above what it can do comfortably.

Yeah, "cheater bung" is catchy...think that's what I'll refer to them as from now on. :D

I've pulled my boat out of the water, it's probably close to 4,000 lbs with the trailer weight included. I have to be in 2LO to pull it out when on the boat ramp as it just smokes my clutch in HI. I've never pulled it on the road since our house is about 100 yards from the boat ramp. That being said, it definitely feels on the heavier side and I'm sure I'd be in 3rd and 4th gears for anything but the flattest of roads. Fortunately I don't have to pull any heavy loads on a regular basis; if I did I'd probably have a full size truck. :ballchain:

When I towed my 20’ fiberglass bass boat with my 2017 Taco in the Va. area... longest tows were to Kerr Resevoir, Smith Mountain Lake and then locally for the Potomac, from the Alexandria area, It worked fine... not as well as a full size V8 or my old Tundra, but it was livable. The issue, IMO, safety wise, was the ability to make a panic stop on moist or wet pavement. The surge brakes would lock up the trailer and push the Taco and wouldn’t with my old Tundra. That surprised me because the 3rd Gen Tacos are almost the same size as the first Gen Tundras. 4WD Low was great for steep or slimy ramps. Just an FYI and my experience.

Outstanding. Yeah, those little buggers are awesome. Saved me a LOT of money and time back in the day.

Funny that I've never heard of them before, so I was reluctant to install them. Pretty simple design concept.

I have a DMV appointment that I setup 2 months ago but no longer need. It's scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday 2/9 at 11:15 at the Westfields, Chantilly branch. I'm not sure if it can be transferred to someone else, but if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Otherwise I'll cancel it.

At least they are easier to install on the Taco than the Audi: https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng114.shtml

'I'm about to get a 14 ft trailer for my Kubota tractor (total around 4500-5000 lbs), so this is all good information!!! I'll also have the dual axle with brakes.

So what's the consensus on making your own winch line? Found a nice Warn locally but it's steel and the price of a new Warn line is just... holy shit. Amsteel is so much cheaper and I have to splice in the thimble anyway... would be just as easy to splice the loop in the other end.

I can't speak to quality, but there's a bunch of winch line on Amazon. So...

How would the price compare to buying premade amsteel line?

    https://www.hivisoverland.com/products/3-8-synthetic-winch-line?variant=29517159727174

Or just buy this and pocket the rest. I ordered this in a pinch and ended up returning it since I didn't need it, but I was impressed with the quality of the line, especially for the price.

Yeah my only worry about Amazon is the questionable quality... I can get 3/8 Amsteel with a 17k WLL for $200 which I'm completely cool with... just not sure if there was something I was overlooking. That's Smitty prices with high end Warn quality.
