I've already made a few posts but I thought I'd introduce myself. I picked up this '98 regular cab back in November in MD then drive it back to Arkansas. So far I've had to replace a bent manual locking hub and had a P0420 code pop up. Also, it looks like there's some painted over surface rust on the frame as well as some chips that fell out when I stuck a hose in there to clean it out. But it seems solid structurally (hammer test) and is running well. I paid 5k for the truck so I guess it was a decent deal over all.

So far I've taken it down some service roads in the Ozarks but have so far turned around when it started getting a bit hectic. I was scared of getting stuck alone with open diffs and 31s! I took it up a few washed out side trails and mud bogs to test out the 4lo and it seemed pretty capable as is however..

I had your same truck except in green. It was the best little 4wd I've ever had. Nice truck.

Thanks. I like the short wheelbase. I might sell my Forester to help fund a rear locker though!

I thought of that, though I wasn't sure it would stop the de-lamination of the steel which has unfortunately already started inside the frame. Hopefully having down in Arkansas should help slow it down at least.

I'll probably look into either the fluid film or safe-t-cap/POR15 solutions eventually though. Thanks for the welcome!

    Check out Coroseal
It can be sprayed inside box frame sections using 369° wand extension on undercoating spray gun.
