ABS and Traction Control Light Intermittent.

My 2009 Tacoma recently started to have the ABS and Traction Control light come on for a period of time then go away. I know its a sensor but first I believed my break pads needed to be serviced since I never had them done.

Before I get raked over hot coals, anybody have this issue and know of easy solutions?

 

Pull codes. no easy solutions without realistic analysis. These lights are set to activate for a myriad of reasons and not necessarily involving what you see on the dash. Depending upon the model they are set to catch all, codes will be stored even if the light isn't active. Stop in an auto parts store and they can pull codes for you as well if you don't have a scanner. $30 on Amazon gets you a decent OBD-2 scanner to plug into any vehicle.

 

200$ gets you a freaking awesome scanner, Best $ I have spent for messing with ABS

 

Thank you for the insight. I swung by AutoZone earlier and they said their scanner will not be able to detect the codes for ABS. I'm pretty sure he was just being lazy or rather have me buy a $100 scanner. Im going to get the Autel AutoLink

AL519 OBD2 Scanner. I see its about 50 bucks with a nice display.

Launch scanners are pretty damn good, forever updated and thousands of different cars/trucks. pays for itself after helping a few peeps out )

 

You can pull the codes yourself with a jumper.
You will need to understand how to read the “flashing lights”
It’s really not that hard.

I don’t think this works for stored codes. I think this is only if the code is active. His situation is intermittent I believe.

 

Yes it will go away for a while then come back on. Doesn't happen if I brake hard it is so random but consistent enough to annoy me. Last time I drove for 3 hours and it went away. Then it came back on when I wasn't even braking.

 

It may not show codes of the ABS light isn’t on.
It’s well worth the money to buy a scam tool with the capabilities of ABS and SRS.
Probably get by without SRS, but it’s nice to have if you need it.
