Having my second bout of challenges in the past 2 months now with rodents chewing through wiring harnesses.

1st time cost ~$1k in damages
2nd time estimated cost is $3k in damages.

This is all within the span of 2 months, thankfully insurance is covering this but its a pain in my ass.

I'm going to try to find a way to park my truck in my garage when i get it back, but my garage isn't huge and the angle makes a lifted truck a pain to park.

I've setup some bait traps, givng the bucket trap a shot but seeing what other solutions you all have come up with in the past.

At lowes they sell tomcat brand perfume spray rodent repellant, id spray that all over the underside of your truck.

have you used this stuff before? i saw it at homedepot last night but wasn't sure about how effective it'd be.

Also i'd be curious from what point do you all thing rodents are accessing the truck? Just jumping up from the underside? Going thru the exhaust etc?

    That sucks.

Our garage is tight to get in and out of. It is worth the effort though. No hazed headlights, rodent issues, and such.

Try mint oil. I just posted this the other day:

I've heard that ground cinnamon is an excellent rodent repellent.
Season your engine bay.. tape a cinnamon stick to the harness... make cinnamon buns.

Yeah since i have no truck for at least a week my weekend project will be trying to re-arrange/clear out my garage to make this hopefully fit. Where do you think i'd put the mint oil? Like spray it in the engine bay or just around the house or both

I would do both. I don't think that mint oil will affect plastics or wire insulation, but I would put it on the engine cover, firewall foam, and on the splash guards in the wheel wells?

Just go buy some mouse poison. Spread it around...refresh it every month of so. Up at a farm I work at during the summer I put it in all the tractors, trucks, on the atvs, on all the wheels, all over the corners of the shop and in all the sheds. It is very cheap insurance.

Since I have dealt with this before:
1 - Clean the engine compartment thoroughly (smell attracts more)
2 - Leave hood propped open (they like dark privacy)
3 - These are made local to me, people swear by them, and the website is a trip: https://www.rid-a-rat.com/
