I got my winch out of the box yesterday in advance of my bumper one day arriving, to power it up and make sure it works, etc. One thing I noticed while doing a dry run of spooling was there were two spots on the synthetic line that were kinda fuzzy. Not broken, but some wear. I assume it is from the zip tie that secured it in the box.

Horrible pic, but the best one I could grab with any sort of focus.

Line is a wear item, but right out of the box would be a warranty issue. My assumption would be that I would develop a little bit of this on recovery situations, so it wouldn't be a big deal. Or am I wrong?

The other thing I ran into is that all the line wouldn't fit on the spool, but my assumption there is that it was because I wasn't under load.

Yeah, you need to attach the line to another truck, or a tree or something, and spool the rope on under slight tension. Park on either a slight incline or have someone ride the brakes and you pull your truck in.

As for the fuz, I doubt that's a problem at all. Remember, these ropes are continuous threads, they're made up of tons of shorter filaments that are held together by friction. A little bit of that is fine. You can, however, get a sheath that goes over the last few feet of rope. This does a few things but helps protect the rope from sun exposure and abrasion.

Yeah, all over Ronny. Going through the back catalog now. Guess I'll just let it ride then.

This is something you'll be trusting your life to, so you'll want to be confident with it.

I personally wouldn't have an issue with it, but I'm just some goober in the internet. If it gives you more confidence, see what the manufacturer says about it.

Fair point. I'll see if I can get a better picture and contact Smittybilt.

After you use it a few times the whole line will probably look like that. (Granted thats not a very good picture). Personally I have just accepted a small amount of 'fuzz' from synthetic lines

    Much better pic. Thanks,

I'd say that would give me pause, maybe not on an older rope, but certainly a brand new one.

I say just put a sheath over it. Out of sight, out of mind, lol.

Doesn't hurt to send that pic to SB...

Sent an email. Funny thing is, the winch isn't returnable to Amazon because it contains "flammable liquids or gas."

Well, I'm impressed with their CS. Already got a response.

    That's sorted then.
