I have noticed a few things that seem off on my new 2021 tacoma.....

    1) when shifting from reverse into neutral, it kinda, lurches. Ive never had this happen in any other car or truck I had. is this normal?

    2) the hood.... I have a normal, non-hood scoop hood, and when driving it looks like.... its like vibrating/rattling in the middle.... like its made out of cheap thin sheet metal. is this normal? my old 2014 tacoma I dont think did that.....

    3) shifting seems clumsy, but I have heard and read on here that it learns and take like 1000-1500 miles to learn driving habits, so not too concerned about that, just something I noticed

    Any thoughts?

Hood vibrations have been around since the 2016 model. Some non scooped hoods do it some don’t. Try firmly pressing the brake while changing gears to minimize lurch.

The transmission is poorly geared but seems to be reliable. The ECT button helps a little. You’ll get used to it.

My hood vibrates as well. As much as the hood weighs you think it would be impossible.

There is an adhesive applied between the hood inner and outer panels. The adhesive separates and allows the outer panel to vibrate. Some take it to the dealer to fix and others fix it themselves.

It says SR5 so it has to be AT.

I think it depends on what region you’re buying in.

Nope, the last SR5 MT was in 2015, however in 2016 and 2017 you could get an SR Access Cab 4 Cylinder 5 Speed MT.

So you're saying that the scooped hoods don't vibrate? I haven't noticed it in mine. If true, that would be a reason for keeping the scooped hood, which I otherwise don't like.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Mine does this too; not super smooth when transitioning from R to D but no concerns. You'll probably also notice that rpms go up slightly when turning the wheel (most noticeable backing out and when cold) making it lurch a bit.

I just got a 2021 TRD sport a bit over a week ago.

no hood vibration but it has the scoop.

I noticed the shifting as as well. Only have 125 miles on it right now but at times it feels almost like the torque converter is engaging and disengaging. Happened a few times. Did notice that ECT helps but then it holds the gear and at 50 mph feels likes rpms are too high.

thing I don’t like so far is that it has to down shift or change converter lockup while on the freeway going over overpasses. My 2009 TRD Sport didn’t do this.
