    Hey Guys

    I have a 4 x 4 Toyota Prado 2007 four (4) cylinder 2TR-FE Gasoline Engine 2.7 Automatic transmission.

I want to change the Transfer and Differential (Front & Rear) Fluid as maintenance.

I was checking the Toyota manual and I am a little confused because its say that it use different fluids if I have a Standard Differential or a Limited Slip Differential

How do I know what type of differential I have?

Can you advise what oil type to get?

    Thx & Rgds

Simple check would be to raise both rear wheels safely off the ground, and with the vehicle safely chocked to prevent movement put it in neutral. Get out and rotate one of the raised rear tires watching the other tires rotation direction. Is it the same, or spinning backwards. Same direction is LSD, counter rotation is an open differential. You can’t hurt either differential by using LSD rated gear oil, it’s only unnecessary in an open diff.

    A thing or two...
There should be a sticker somewhere on your truck similar to the one below. In the USA, it's on the driver's side door jam. In the bottom row of the picture, C/TR are the paint and interior trim codes. A/TM are the axle and transmission codes.

Spend some time googling "2007 Prado axle code", and learn something new.

I believe only the diesels had LSD, but you 100% should spin the wheels in the air to see if they spin with or opposite each other.

If you are on a dirt or mud road and accelerate hard to see if one or two wheels spin?
