update/disclaimer... I drive about 2 miles to work everyday. and in the summer months I go camping/off road driving almost every weekend..... small leveling kit and 265s sounds like my best bet.. opinions and comments please.

your response is the reason why I don't think that 285s are for me. as basic as it is I'm really having a hard time swallowing the idea of cutting into my truck... (cmc). I hope i can fit 265s with minimal (plastic) cutting in order to have ZERO rubbing off road considering I put a lot of time off road.

Fair comment. It is important to note that whether you lift with a spacer and blocks, or “properly” with taller lift springs all around, your CV angles and driveshaft angles are subjected to the same increase in wear and tear. Usually below 2” this isn’t a problem.

True. That is the reason I dont lift mine. 31s rub I tiny bit at full lock on my 99, but I'm ok with it.

    Have a great night.

Is a leveling kit different from a spacer lift? Forgive my newbie question but was wondering if a front leveling kit was helpful if possible?

They are the same. A leveling kit usually implies just lifting the front as Toyota’s ride higher in the rear from factory so they level out with load in the bed. A leveling kit gets rid of this “rake”, and makes the unloaded truck level.

If you dont plan to offroad at all nor care for it a spacer lift is fine.

Check out Fox performance series 2.0 COs with 275s ( I paid $700 but they can be found cheaper. That setup works well with my 2nd gen (same as a 3rd gen suspension). Even spacer lifts need new shocks or adjusted bump stops or they will blow out.
A regear starts to get in the mix with 285s on the third gen.
Edit: The Foxes are sold individually for more now from when I got them and I put 80k miles on them since they were bought
