My sister told me she wants the new Subaru Forrester.
I obviously have a Tacoma and my wife drives a RAV4 so Im pro Toyota.

Knock on wood, our RAV4 has 128k and not a single issue.
Anyone have experience good or bad with the Forrester?
How can I convince her that Rav4 is the better value?

Let her drive the RAV4? might convince her? maybe she'll jump on the Toyo band wagon

My mom loves her 19 RAV4 hybrid from her previous Prius
My dad has a 17 tundra and 16/17? forrester and likes them both for different reasons.
Sister has a second gen tacoma
    brother has a 4th gen 4Runner

There’s quite a price difference, no?

    Subaru makes fantastic vehicles, FWIW.

You have 128K on a current generation RAV4 already?!?! My cousin presently has a 2017 RAV4 XLE AWD that she bought new and she has almost 90K on it because she has a long commute. She drove a current generation one and was not impressed, especially with the interior fit and finish; She’s had a baby since she bought the RAV4 and plans to have another, and she actually has her eye on Subaru Ascent. I’d say that in terms of reliability, the Subaru and the RAV4 are equal, but the Subaru definitely has better interior fit and finish; I also think that the RAV4 looks a like Jeep Cherokee...

After she drives both she'll probably prefer the Forester's better handling. However, the Forester's reliability with the engine and CVT is very questionable.

I own a 2011 Impreza and it's been OK. However, I would avoid any current-gen Subaru.

My experience with subarus have been pretty good overall. The family had 97 outback for a long time, and I had a 2011 outback as well. The 97 had the standard head gasket replacement at 100k miles, but went along fine until 213k without issue. Factory Clutch.

More related though, my 2011 outback (with CVT) never had an issue other than standard maintenance and tires over 100k miles of ownership. The CVT always felt a little strange to drive.

Well the current-gen RAV4 is basically a raised Camry wagon (they're on the same platform) and equally boring to drive, but reliable.

My daughter purchased a Subaru Impreza new then went to a new Rav4 much nicer ride in the Rav4. Although Subaru is a subsidiary of Toyota. I would definitely tell her to drive a RAV4 first.

yea she plans on test driving them. I told her I can get more discount at toyota. I know a sales rep there pretty much and have purchased 3 new off road Tacomas in the last 4 months.

Subaru does make a nice looking vehicle, Toyota has had an investment in Subaru for years, Subaru has joined up with Toyota so they could help them make even a better vehicle. I personally would lean more toward the RAV4 they have a great ride and preform great. Tell her to take them both out for a nice long ride then look at all the features both offer.
