When I was in Germany, I had a Audi 100 hatch wagon thing that was the ugliest car I have ever seen. BUT. It would do 125-130 all day long on the autobahn and was only $800. I run that car into the ground and never looked back.

Mine was green tho. And that is not me in the green knickers and matching hat....(could be back in the day tho)

This was another $800 car I had in Stuttgart. Beautiful car but expensive to own. Plug wires were hand made each tune up. $100 a set in 1995. The Porsche factory is down the hill from the car. Amazing place to live.

My uncle had the Passat hatchback similar to that, in orange

Not pretty and very slow with a 3 speed automatic and a 1600cc engine

...^^^... I was living and working at Metz, Gmbh in Karlsruhe a few years (1980's) before 1995. Metz was a fire truck manufacturer.

One of the owners at Metz (at that time) ... had a company that manufactured hydraulic hoses & fittings and electrical components in the Stuttgart area for Porsche. Metz is now owned by Rosenbauer. Maybe they made your expensive plug wires ... lol

Ps ... I loved living in Germany .... only place I liked more than Germany was Finland :) ... (I was single then) ...

We had a petrol green W123 230E like that, drove it for many years

    Heavy car built to last

I once took it to 190kmph and it ran at that speed like it was at 90kmph

Must have been for the girls then

    Can you read Finnish?

We watched lots of Finnish series/films on Netflix/Prime and are always joking about the 12 or more letter words with lots of "kk's" and "ää's" in it

...^^^... No, I can't read or write Finnish .... just spoke and understood a little.
Things that I tried to learn first in any language were ... (1) Where is the bathroom ? .... and .... (2) You have beautiful eyes .... :)

I was working with Bronto Skylift in Tampera and that was a great place to live and work. Tampera was smaller than Helisinki and more friendly.

You could do anything in Finland .... EXCEPT ... DO NOT DRINK & DRIVE.
You would get fined a percentage of your salary, name in the newspaper and on TV, maybe lose your job and would be ostracised in general.

I was not a big drinker so ... it was not a big deal for me. Back then ... the educated Finnish and Russian women (Russians visiting from St. Petersburg, Russia) loved Americans. I was surprised how aggressive the women were to meet Americans too (35 years ago).

The Finnish and Swedish languages look a lot the same (with the J, K, I and A's letters) ... but are very different.

My current wife was driving a 1983 300td when I first met her. Who knew that the very same car could chug up a hill like a tractor and yet do 80mph all day on the freeway. I loved it.

I loved it too. I went to the dealer. Didn't speak much German but in typical fashion he told me to sit down, shut up and he'd be right back. 20 minutes later, I peeked into the window, and in his white lab coat, I could see him stretching out the wire on the bench to a pre-drawn measurement and cutting it. I was amazed. Thought he would grab a box off the shelf...LMAO.
    Loved the Country.

    Was it a manual?

The 300D was popular with farmers, they could fill their luxury car with their own diesel tanks

...^^^... IIRC, the 240 D's were the bread and butter MB's (taxi's and ect.) ... and the 300 D's were for the more sophisticated drivers ... lol.

It's make an image to convince you to buy a flat rack. It works. I had to buy 2 because the rack on my dress blues was a different shape than my squared one.

They also let you add any attachments and additional devices.

Neat! I retired about 10 years ago, but never built my shadow box, nor done anything with my miniature medals. The latter is my first project.

A good bud said he planned to have his miniature medals "framed" and hung on the wall. I'm in the process of buying the last miniature medal, which was the "I was alive during Operation Iraqi Freedom" medal, then have them mounted again. I have 3 or 4 additional medals since the last time I had them mounted, so the entire stack will need to be redone. (No formal events the last few years I was active, so no need to have them updated.) I talked to the gals at the uniform shop on base, and was told it will cost $5.50/medal. That's going to be a little expensive...lol

Once this project is done, I'll have my large medals mounted, and finally build my shadow box. I have the box, but just never put it together.
