I double checked and it is a C rated tire so that explains the weight. It was the same reason for the weight difference when I looked at the grabber X3 in 35x12.5; its a C rated tire as well. Definitely don't have the sidewall strength of an LT 10 ply but it should be more compliant on road which I do the majority of the time anyways. That's why I carry a spare haha.

 

Been watching Matt's Offroad recovery on youtube a lot lately.

Makes me wanna up and start a company out in Utah.

 

Eh, the market is pretty much saturated already. Off road recovery takes intimate knowledge of the area that pretty much only a local could have.

Oh yeah, I'm sure. He mentioned going days without a recovery in one of the videos.

Is it on Fabrats channel? I haven't checked that channel yet, but I did see the white taco with flatbed.

 

Yeah, Paul has a pretty badass 2nd gen with SAS and a tray. He beats the piss out of it.

I also wouldn't rely on Matt for recovery knowledge. He was recovering with a ball hitch and a kinetic rope for a looooong time before people called him out and he got a pintle hitch. He does have experience though and his XJ is pretty legit. I question his tire choice, but he likes them, so whatever works.

 

I watch so I know what would work and what doesn't.

I've noticed he runs tire off wheel several times. Like damn. Wasn't even aware of how much PSI he was running when he started deflating at one point.

 

What he did in the past "works" but it's not best practice for a professional like him. I think he ends up welding on some rim rings eventually to keep that from happening. IIRC he just drives around everywhere out there on like 12PSI or something.

 

Professional or not, the videos are helpful. I look to see what I would have done differently rather than imitating.

I dislike how they go off trail to set up points to anchor from. I cringe.

 

Considering he's done about 1000x the recoveries I've done, I defer to his judgement almost always. I've been impressed so much with that damned Yankum that I bought a kinetic rope and soft shackles for myself.

 

Soft shackles have been on my list to get for awhile now. I saw those in 4WD action and liked the safety factor of it.

 

It's a toolbox for the situation. I have yet to be in a situation with DP that a kinetic rope was needed, yet.
Every recovery I've done so far were just pulls.
But I have one along with my straps, d rings, and winch remote.
Always in my passenger side case for when they are needed.

That's exactly what's in my kit just inside the windoor on my shell, minus the winch stuff.

I ended up giving in and purchasing after I pulled somebody out of a yard with a tree saver strap... I know, I know. But this lady needed help bad lol.

 

@Slashaar referred me to Rhino USA awhile ago. I have their tow strap and the shackle hitch receiver. I was going to get their soft shackles, but sold out right now anyway.
