p0705 and B2799 Codes, please help

Hey everyone,
Well I jumped into my 2006 totota tacoma this morning and my check engine light was on. I scanned it to see what codes they were and it was the P0705 and B2799. As far as the truck goes, its acting completely normal except I noticed on the dash that when I am in Park, the R for Reverse is on, and sometimes it actually goes on and off. Thats the only thing ive noticed. It shifts fine, starts no problem, everything seems ok. What do you all recommend doing at this point? We recently had some really cold weather, at lease for here, down to 9 degrees. Could this have something to do with it?

You always fix codes in the order they appear .
If P0705 came first , I would think it is the reason your B2799 showed up .
The ECM in your truck needs to know when the transmission is in park and neutral before it will allow you to start the truck .
Is your shifter hard to move ?

 

Nope it shifts just fine .

 

Is the NSS separate or part of the PRNDL module?

 

You could spend the money and order up a new switch or save some cash and try cleaning up the contacts inside the switch .
There are some write ups in that thread I linked for you
Over the years , its not uncommon for the wiring to get corroded where the harness meets the switch under the truck . The seals between the switch and the harness get hard like rock and allow contamination to get in there .
Considering its ice cold up there , Shrinkage of wiring terminals is high on the list
You will see green corrosion all over the terminals
Also , look at the TSB as another common issue

Looking at that link you sent , I have to remove the transmission cover to get to all this right . This part isn’t on the outside of the transmission?

 

Never mind I see what you’re talking about now regarding the wires. It’s inside the cab by the driver side door it looks like

 

Well, just jumped back in it to start it up and it almost wouldnt crank but did. im just gonna replace the NSW and see what happens.

B2799 is an engine immobilizer code for the ignition key
B2799 can be generated when you twist the ignition key to start the truck , but the ecm in the truck thinks you are in reverse rather than park which in turn prevents the truck from starting .
