    Hello old friends,

I since sold my 2016 Tacoma and bought a 2017 Tundra a few years back! I never left this forum because of all the great help and info!

I recently bought these items below

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009SZHS8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU59SAQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I dont want a full alarm system I just want to put this flashing blue led for a deterrence!

I've tried to install it in the interior fuse panel, I've tried several ways and I can't figure it out! I did get it to flash when key is off and out but the locking and unlocking with key remote started working on and off at times! I also got it going but stayed on with engine on and off!

    Any other way to install?

I really want to figure it out without going to a shop for them to do it!

Any help, I would really be thankful

    Michael in San Antonio!

Maybe you could use a normally closed relay to supply power to light.
I don’t have access to diagrams for a Tundra.

Relay sounds like the way to go. Wire it so that it’s normally closed giving power to the modual. And when the key is turned on it activates the relay and turns off the light.

You can get these relays anywhere. Amazon, local auto part stores, ect.

    what I’m saying do is:
pin 85 This needs to power on with the vehicle, use a fuse tap.
Pin 30 is constant 12v power,
Pin 87a wound be power to the light.
Pin 87 wound be left blank. Cover to protect that pin!
    Pin 86 to ground.

    Josh,

So this way I go directly to the battery instead of the interior fuse box! Also do I follow the same wiring as in the picture! I do have an extra switch!

So when I am parked I just take the key out and switch on the LED via the switch and switch off when driving!

Goin to the battery direct does it draw a lot of power!

    Thanks bud!

I’d doesn’t matter how you wire the lights.
They are going to draw the same current whether from a fuse tap or direct to battery.
You could do what you just said, and use a manual switch.

Going with a relay would eliminate the need to manually flip a switch.

I doubt those leds pull much amperage at all.
I didn’t see a spec on them, but they looks small and most don’t pull enough to drain a battery very fast. Not if you are driving the truck on a regular basis.

Most automotive relays will have several connections.

One set of connections will "activate" the relay. This should be on power controlled by the key. Terminals 85 and 86.

The other connections will be on 2 switch states, NO (normally open without power) and NC (normally closed without power). These will be the contacts labeled 87 and 87a. Sorry, I forget which is NO or NC. There will be a diagram on the relay.

Put your LED across the NC contacts.

This will allow the LED to be OFF when you run the truck. The LED will turn on when you shut off the truck.
