Did you go skiing with ‘Ambition Strikes’ in Mammoth?

That's is a nice organizer - too small a space for the fridge though, I'm mounting my fridge on the other side of that brace. To make up for the loss of seating, I'll be adding a hinged sleeping platform that folds up into a bench with the back of the bench up against the cab wall. When it is down for a sleeping platform it'll be between the cab wall and the brace on the kitchen side. I'll have some pics hopefully by this weekend as a proof of concept. Eventually the sleeping platform/fridge support/kitchen will all be in 8020 extrusions, but first it'll be in plywood to ensure everything will fit properly.

Little update on the build out. I'm just about done with hooking up all the fuel lines and exhaust for the diesel heater. I had to order proper sized lines highly recommended by this guru on Youtube. I believe I posted his stuff already. It was pretty cheap and worth the wait from Amazon to get it done right. I have also come up with a way to direct the exhaust through the bed of the truck and out the driver's side and upgraded the air intake. It will look pretty clean and I'll be able to disconnect the exhaust to the truck when the Kimbo is removed. Just need to make sure the length won't be too long, don't believe it will. Still need to create the enclosure for the heater and hook up the solar. I did get my SOK battery in and its a beast at only 40+ lbs. Timeline is looking good to have the majority of projects done by Spring Break including the kitchen. Wood stove will be last since I want to focus everything on it. Will have one heat source to get by. Will post the parts list and pictures when completed with the diesel heater.

Finally settled on a diagram to base my system off of with some tweaks. Now to fit it all in like a puzzle. Plugged in is nice right now since it’s 3° outside. Toasty inside. Added some helpful charts.

 Might consider getting something like this for your wall outlet. Also, the RTS if you don't have it already. FWIW, I installed something like this for the USB charger

Thanks! The white cord coming out of the wall powers a multi port box but I wish there was a 3.0 quick charge in there. The EPEVER came with everything. Adding this shunt too, it's is the same as the Renogy one.

Electrical done. Just need to install the solar panels and it will be self sustaining. Will be adding a wooden base plate for the inverter to keep it from moving later.

That is a well thought out system for sure! Is that filler panel with the barrel latch removable?

Thanks! It took a lot of research but really happy with it. Looking forward to seeing how it preforms with the panels attached. When installing it was really difficult to picture where everything should fit. So I just started with the positive solar and installed the parts as I worked down the chain. Getting the perfect lengths for the shorter cables was challenging with the thick gauge but worked out well. Will add the inverter remote and shunt/batter monitor screen when the kitchen is built.

Yeah the filler panel is removable which made the install a little easier. My jigsaw skills do need some practice though. You just need to disconnect a couple of cables to have the slack to remove again.

OK!! had our first cold nights in the Kimbo and we figured it'd be good to pass along what we've learned so far.

    1. Aluminum, if you didn't know already (LOL) is a terrific conductor - so any exposed aluminum was quick to be very cold. Plans for skinning/covering/insulating those areas are in the works...more to come on that.
    2. A tiny chair (we used a tripod folder that worked great because it could be folded up and stored easily) just inside the door to sit on while keeping your feet on the teak makes it so much easier to untie and remove boots.
    3. The propane furnace, even on the lowest setting with the fan off, can keep the bed loft super warm. We will be installing a small 12v fan up high to move some of that warm air down to the lower parts to keep feet warm while not cooking the sleeping loft.
    4. We will be replacing the stock fan with one that has a built in cover (Maxxfan with roof vent) - this will allow the vent to be left open even in inclement weather. We don't want to stick one of those large box covers on top, have heard nothing be bad things about their performance.
    5. Be careful with the shade on the door - we've found that bumping it will knock the fabric off the track and then things do not go well when attempting to slide the shade up. If you see a wrinkle in the shade, be sure to stick your finger in the track and just nudge the fabric back into the channel, kind of like a zip lock where you start at one side of the wrinkle and slide your finger up as it slips into the channel.
    6. Noticed the panels in the hanger area is not insulation (neither is the door) and it will sweat terribly - it's some type of rubber or foam.

Gotta run - to be continued

The only noticeable condensation we saw during a couple of our cold nights were on the tips of the screws that hold the insulation against the shell. Since the middle is an exposed metal screw, the cold definitely conducted to the end a created a little water droplet on each thumb screw. Although very minimal, Im thinking something like these might solve that problem. Interested to see what you have in store! Will have to grab one of those chairs too.

Currently have a lot of the panels off if anyone is interested in the construction. I'll still be adding the heater build out and some specifics on the solar set up, comparison to the Goal Zero 1500x.

Looking into Tnemec's fluid-applied thermal insulating coating, Aerolon. It sounds like it's the ticket but it's primarily used in the industrial field and not necessarily for hobbyists...I've requested some additional info and a sample. I'll let you know what I find out.

That stuff looks great. Curious if too if they can supply for hobbyists. Would this work in the same fashion? It keeps things cool but also used as a thermal insulator. Does it go both ways? The ice test video is pretty impressive. Thermal dynamics is not my forte...

Interesting - the Lizardskin sounds like they use ceramic and the Aerolon uses aerogel particles to provide the thermal break.

    Hi All,

Profloudering, yes I did go skiing with ‘Ambition Strikes’ in Mammoth, it was awesome. All my manuals were inside the propane tank cabinet. Also, on propane leaks I haven't had any yet but always turn my tank off when not in use. The tank fits pretty tight in the cabinet and I am careful not to bend the hoses near the connection points because I've heard that is how leaks can start.

The Areolon and Lizardskin both look awesome, would you coat the outside of the Kimbo with them?

I've ordered the truck vault drawers for the 'basement' of the Kimbo. I'll send pics once installed.

I've also gone with the Joolca for an outdoor shower and dishwashing setup.

I've been looking into surfboard, ski, and awning mounts to make use the camper jack brackets. Planning to make something similar to this https://saltmade.co/products/fwc-si...ased-80-20-rack-system?variant=32583675183184

Finally, my solar panel isn't charging my yeti 400. I've got a multimeter and am learning (very slowly) about electricity. I have power coming out of the wires it just isn't charging the yeti 400 off the 8mm plug in. I'll keep you posted.

The upgrades and tinkering possibilities are endless and the simplicity of the design is so fantastic. I'm stoked!
