Mine does. If it rolls back the brakes apply automatically.

 

The engine should not be shutting off. The automatic transmission knows when the truck is moving backwards and engages the ABS system to keep it from moving.
Ask to bring the lead mechanic with you and video the situation in the same spot.

Off Road and Pro Manuals do not have it, the Automatics do.

If that is what Toyota calls the ABS holding the truck from rolling backwards, I need to reread the owners manual. I have a TRDOR automatic.

 

Yeah that's it, Manual Sports also have HSA.

 

Is that the same as the clutch override switch in the older Gens?

 

No, the HSA on the Sport just holds the brakes for a few seconds so the truck doesnt roll backwards. The Clutch Start Cancel switch lets you start the truck in gear to get you moving out of a tough situation.

 

You have two ways to prevent this. Use the brake pedal or hand brake.

I don’t think the engine should stall, but you have other methods to control backward movement. Skills you must learn if using a manual in hilly conditions.

The HSA works beautifully on hills. Not that I need it, but it does save the clutch a bit, neat feature.
