Hi all... just came back from a camping trip and my 2002 2.4 started making an exhaust leak sound on the way home. Looks like the exhaust manifold flange has rusted/cracked (right before the exhaust tube connection).

Im going to get an OEM Exhaust Manifold, OEM Manifold Gasket and OEM Exhaust Pipe To Manifold Gaskets. Also will probably get Studs and Nuts for everything as well just in case something goes wrong.

Any tips on swapping the Exhaust manifold out other then liquid wrench and loosing the exhaust tube first?

    Thanks in advance!

Pretty straight forward job really, only thing I can add is hose all the studs down with the liquid wrench or WD40 and use a quality six point socket. Those studs don’t seem to rust and the nuts are some sort of alloy and don’t seize so just don’t round em and you’ll be fine..
    Good luck..

Thank you! I will probably pick up a breaker bar too for this.

Impact wrench is much better suited for this sort of job.

    Thanks all for the advice.

A Breaker bar and 20" socket extension was key on this repair. It would have been impossible otherwise. I replaced all the gaskets and nuts with OEM. The manifold studs stayed in the head when I took the nuts off, so I left them in.

Any tips for breaking the manifold in or is it good to go?

Your good to go, no break-in is needed.
Thanks for letting us know how it came out, too many threads just end without the OP commenting on how it came out, or if the problem was solved...
