Does anyone know if the TRD manual transmission sport has Atrac? We tested it out with my friend's 4th gen 4runner that has it and although it seems to have some electric locker in mine, it seems weaker than the Atrac system and way less smooth. I was wondering if it affected the rear of the truck only because if so I was thinking of putting in a limited slip differential to the front of the truck. Any advice is appreciated!

First, see the Traction Control sticky. It explains all the modes better than the owners manual.

Only the MT ORs and Pros have A-TRAC. We have regular TRAC, but it works well enough with wheels in the air, IMHO. You're right that it has less bite than A-TRAC and takes a bit more wheel slip to engage.

Hard top camper...many more to add+
In the 70.s...I use to read so many off road magazines..(no googles then)...The ultimate systems was lockers front and rear, next best was rear locker and a limited slips in front...third best just rear lockers, and fourth best ..limited slips front and rear , followed by a rear limited slip only..again not all lockers and limited slips were the same, each had pros and cons...

adding either locker or limited slip to front ...will give more traction...
Full time rear lockers..learn about the pros and cons
Using front locker ..learn the pros and cons
    Aloha,

Contrary to the info found in the sticky, it appears that in at least the 2021 model year, TRD Sport 6MT has A-Trac. Build one on the website and it will be listed. I also received this info below from a dealer.

That is what the Toyota site says currently, however I would bet almost any amount of money that it is wrong. (I have seen it wrong before and if we pay attention I am sure it will be wrong again.)

We have seen over and over in the last 2 years that Toyota is removing actual real functional items (probably to make the truck cheaper), while they are adding the safety sense, etc... (for example the automatic transmission to air cooler is removed, the front diff temp sensor appears to be removed...)

It is just VERY unlikely that they would put the OR/PRO electric hydraulic brake booster in the Sport, it costs ~$1k more than the normal vacuum booster....

(there is no guarantee I am right or wrong, just an educated guess)

My 2021 Sport Access Cab MT 4x4 does not have the A-TRAC. The chart is wrong. Furthermore, a similar chart I got with my truck shows that it's not supposed to have the A-TRAC. That's reserved for the OR versions.

It would have been some nice laginappe, as we say in these parts, if this weren't a mistake. Can't be pissing off any of those OR owners now, can we??
