A similar thread is located in the 3rd gen forum but thought it could help some 2nd gen people out too. There are a few options out there for bed mounted tents. This is my set up. Price of pvc and a tarp is a whole lot cheaper than other set ups you can buy. I normally pitch a traditional tent, but this option is nice for when you dont want to or cant pitch a tent.

I used pvc to make a frame that can be wraped with a tarp. The pvc frame is connected to the bed with carabiners at the bed hooks and the top connection is made with carabiners and paracord connected to the moveable bed cleats. The frame lifts up and down to allow you to enter the bed.

On the inside the tarp is connected to the topper at the gas strut hinges with wire ties wrapped around the tarp eyelets. Then I have a couple magnets closing the tarp gap near the rear side of the bed. I then tuck the hanging end of the tarp under the 3 legs of the frame. Should stay a little warmer and protect me from wind and light rain. Its nice being able to stretch out.

I like the idea of pvc and the tarp over a full blown tent.
I bought an air mattress for a 5ft bed off Amazon for about 100 bucks.
Amazon.com: Pittman Outdoors PPI-105 AirBedz Original Truck Bed Air Mattress for 5'-5.5 Mid-Size Short Truck Beds with Tailgate Mattress: Automotive

I also bought tent that connects to my camper shell, but I can't find in my amazon history. I think it was 139.00
Here is a picture of a test fit. I added an Awning and couldn't be happier.
