    Hello everyone.

I immigrated to the United States in 2017 from the Netherlands. I drove my wife’s 2001 Toyota Tacoma (6 Inch Lift) for the past 4 years. And we just traded her in and purchased a brand new 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport.

We are super excited to start this journey and upgrade the truck over time. Most of my friends own the TRD off Road but we chose to go with the sport. I’ve been researching these Scepter Fuel Tanks. 4 of them is 80L which is 21 Gallons which would be an extra full tank, and I want to get a 5th can for water.

Anyway... long story short I’ve been searching for ways to mount these 5 cans, and the only information I can find is 1-2 can holders. I was hoping maybe someone here knew a bit more about these specific scepter tanks.

Worse case scenario I’ll just get 2x2 + 1x1 mounts and weld them on the top of diamondback bed cover were thinking of buying. Ive also seen people mount them on top of the cab mounted to a 4 roof rack but I’m not a huge fan of that.

Thank you, and I’m excited to be part of this community. 63D9E446-A667-4DA1-8DAD-6B7B90D6E3CD.jpg1C37066F-1FC1-443E-8042-35C8321379B4.jpg

Do you already own the Scepter MFC's. If not they can be pricey since they are only available as military surplus.

Why do you want an extra 21 gallons of gas? I've driven in some of the most remote places in North America and never needed that. Two cans and filling up when you're able to will get you anywhere.

@NuktedTaco I do not yet own the Scepter MFCs. They are (as far as I know) only available through Canada and they sell for like 120 USD a piece. They are really high quality, and I really the fact that they don't explode in a fire. (from what I've been told)

@crazysccrmd It's not as much as I think I'd necessary need it. But I'm kind of building the truck with I guess a prepper mindset. And having the option to not have to get gas for a while was the main thought behind it all.

Similar mindset. On long range trips, I carry two 5 gallon fuel cans and two 5 gallon water cans. I also gas up any time I’m at a half tank.

Below is my arrangement. The two water cans fit under the toolbox, fuel cans snug up against the toolbox, ratchet strap keeps them from moving around (clipped to the forward tie down points) and I have a cable lock wound through the handles of the cans attached to an eye bolt threaded into the toolbox. It isn’t fancy, but I’ve done multiple 1000 mile road trips with this arrangement without issue.

You can get a larger capacity fuel tank from Long Range Automotive in Australia through a couple of US importers. That would let you always carry more fuel without using up bed space and still let you toss in cans if you wanted even more.

@Philrab Thanks for the response. That's awesome. I was thinking If I could lay 5 cans-wide under my rearview window. And have storage space on top of that. (in between the cans and the diamondback cover) for let's say a emergency vehicle kit or something I'd only access in a everyone once in a while. Something like this picture bellow. sceptertank.jpg

@crazysccrmd Do you know the costs for a larger capacity fuel tank? (approximate)

Recently read an interesting thread, dude got rid of the spare tire and installed a 42gal Chevy Suburban gas tank which pumped into the stock tank. I thought it was genius, getting over 3x the range without taking up bed space.

@risethewake that is so cool. I don’t think I want to make such permanent changes to the truck though. That’s why I like the Scepter tanks because I’ll be storing them in my garage when I’m just commuting to work. Supposedly these scepter cans don’t explode in a fire, they just melt. Not sure how truthful this is though. Anyway, super cool idea replacing that spare tire with a gas tank.
