Your clarification makes everything make sense. My experience with several different after market clutches is that the rattle your hearing is not that un-common. It also does not mean it's failing or going to have a short life. My current after market clutch from a well known vendor does the same thing and varies in noise level. The chirp is also a common annoyance that doesn't necessarily mean you have any failure going on. With the chirp it should silence with a slight pressure on the clutch pedal. The rattle won't silence until the pedal is nearly to the floor. If these descriptions sound like what you're experiencing I wouldn't be worried. What brand of clutch was installed?

It was a Luk clutch (L16112) so clutch and pressure plate. but the way you described it sounds exactly like the problem i’m having. So it’s a problem with the clutch disk itself?

It worked ok for you with a flywheel in good condition? I was told to always resurface the flywheel, so I always have, but if it works ok with one in good condition that saves some trouble.

I usually just inspect for hot spots and blueing if it isn't damaged. Clean it up with a fine emory cloth wheel and let it roll.

I will add that if it has hot spots and blueing it will chatter like an SOB when engaging.

Hot spots and blueing I've replaced the flywheel. I remember one with blueing and cracks, it's obviously unsuseable.

mine still had the machining grooves
scuffed it with a spin disc and measured flat with a ruler, cleaned it and slapped in it

    still works

couldn't find a way to machine it
-if you've got the trans out by lunch time, and want the truck running by 5pm, who can you find to machine it in that time? nobody
-who can you find to machine it properly? people usually lie and say they can do it all, but can't
-if you machine it, what thickness spacers must be used? Do you have those?
-if you use a spare part to machine in your off time, how hard is that to get? Are they easy to come by? At what price?

    it is for those reasons,
that it's much easier to just buzz it a few times with scotchbrite...
even seen a Jetta done by hand with sandpaper and it worked.

Worst case I can pull the trans out again
it's easy and should be quick the second time around
    but so far so good

I've had flywheels surfaced while I waited at a NAPA store. NAPA has always done done good work and sold me good parts.
Not having to do it is more convenient however.
