So I have electric heaters controlled by a thermostat on the wall. Recently it’s been unreliable in regards to actually turning on. Example I will turn it to 75 and there is no heat. I turn it off and try again and it begins to work. Now it basically doesn’t work. I don’t think it’s the heater units themselves but the thermostat itself. It’s a high voltage unit as I recently found out as I wanted to put a Nest on. Is this best left to a pro to fix. I attached a couple of pics.

    Thanks

Have you checked the wire connections? Anything loose? Checked out the metal coil that actually reads the air temp?

If you are comfortable messing with the high voltage you can jumper them together, if the heater turns on every time, then your issue is your thermostat

If you understand electricity, know how to turn off breakers, and know how to check that they are actually off with a multimeter, it will be a very simple swap out. If not 100% on what you are doing it would be wise to call a electrician.

99% chance you need to replace the thermostat. Lowes/HomeDepot will have them with the baseboard heaters. Remember to turn off the breaker first. Mine went out a couple of years ago. Easy to change out.

That is a line voltage thermostat, meaning it is high voltage. It closes a set of contacts to turn on the heater. So as was said before, you can jump the wires out, but be aware that are carrying the full current when you do that, so don’t jump them out with a smaller gauge wire. Also, when you go to replace that thermostat, make sure you get one that works on line voltage as well. Could be 220v as well (probably is). So check if you breaker is a double pole

Just to insure no confusion. OP if I believe you have a line voltage thermostat which would be 110/120v or possibly even 220/240v. I don't know your house.

Yes on YouTube. You can buy a meter.
If your breaker is a double pole obviously it’s 240v

Most definitely. Otherwise, it might be a shocking experience.

That’s a line voltage thermostat, all you need to do is verify that it’s a 220 or 110v system
