    Hi Guys,

I've had some issue w/ the stock head unit and was hoping for some guidance.

I did the anytime backup camera mod, not sure if this is related.

A few weeks after the camera mod, I experienced the radio rebooting itself a few times. Then yesterday, it just won't boot up. The tabs (AUDIO, APPS, HOME, etc) light up, flicker off, then come on again. But the screen is dark & head unit doesn't work/show on the tach display either.

The rear camera comes on while in reverse and the front can be toggled to work, so the head unit display works as a monitor.

I tried to update firmware, but the head unit stays 'dark' like it's not in the mood for update and I checked the radio fuses under the hood and the acc fuse under the dash, all are ok.

    Any help very much appreciated.

Sounds like a loose connection, check the connections on the back of your head unit.

As said above, connections. There are some really shitty “any time camera” harness available out there, so if you used a plug n play style harness, remove it and see if it works normally. If not, check all the plugs in the headunit.

    Thanks guys.

I have the anytimebackupcamera full kit set up.

I just d/c'd it and plugged the factory harnesses back, direct to the head unit. No luck. It still sits dark (lit, but dark) unless I toggle the camera switch. The monitor shows both cameras.

Usually when I replace headunits on Toyotas the only thing that works is the backup camera.

You may have a bricked unit. Sorry.

That's what I feared. I'm due for service - I think I'll see what the warranty provides for entertainment.

turn the ignition on, press and hold the radio power button pressed in for ten seconds, see if it doesn't work after that

Why not let it get replaced under warranty, assuming they don't tell you to go away because of your modding.

Then if you want to go aftermarket you have a fresh working unit you can sell for a few bucks or give to someone in need.

Make sure you have the anytime backup connections tucked away and the original connections in place. If the dealer sees those extra connections tapped into the head unit, they'll deny warranty on it straight up and will not negotiate with you. At least give that a go before you go aftermarket.
