Somethings going on with the transmission. When I put it in drive on a slight incline it wants to roll back and engage the ABS brakes. Watch video below. No check engine lights are on.

No that’s not it! Just started doing this. When it warms up ,it’s like The torque converter has no pressure and it just wants to roll. Like it’s not in drive at all.

It’ll still go forward. And it runs fine.

My truck has never done this. Even on the steepest of hills.

This is not my first Tacoma truck. I had a 2019 and it never did this.

I won't tell you how many times I had to read this before I stopped saying in my head "he put it in drive... how can it be a manual transmission?"

Id be going straight to the dealer. It doesn't look like you're even on a steep grade in the video.

? this is supposed to happen? you shouldn't be going backwards in drive? mine does that if im pointed up a hill in drive, let off the gas and brake and roll backwards. im more concerned the days i roll back farther than other times. i thought it was just the off road tech in there. if youre off roading going up a hill, you wouldnt want to roll backwards when youre trying to go up?

for first... you are not supposed to let automatic transmissions hold you on a hill. that is what the brake is for. never try to hold your auto trans vehicle on a hill, incline etc... with the accelerator and a forward gear. put the brake on, shift to drive, accelerate, release brake... no rolling back. We have 2 Tacos, '18 and '20 and both trucks do this in the 1/2 second it takes to get foot off the brake and hit the gas when on a slope. I will admit that it only happens on this one, particularly steep section of road while waiting on a red light change. I thought something was wrong with my wife's '18 until I got a '20 and it does the exact same thing in the same road condition.

My Tacoma an 4Runner both do this. It's the HAC (Hill Start Assis Control). It uses the ABS system to reduce how much it rolls backwards on a hill. It is not intended to completely prevent it from rolling back. It is described in the manual. Totally normal.

Ive never seen this happen or hasnt happened on my truck. I also dont let it roll back (old habit from driving manuals) Mine is an SR so it doesnt have crawl control or mulit terrain select system either.

Makes sense. I was going to say it almost sounds like it’s engaging the crawl control.
