Got to thinking how ironic it is that the truck I drove to the Arctic Ocean in February and that I now use to plow snow in Canada was built in Texas

I could use that setup for getting out of my driveway right about now.

Never thought I’d need a snow shovel in central Texas.

how do you like that rear plow? Seems interesting. You leave it on all the time? Raise and lower it manually or what?

I live in San Antonio, Texas but have driven in the snow/ice for years when working out of state. But....I've never driven a Tacoma in the snow/ice and I gotta say, that sucker did awesome!! Put it in 4x4 and never missed a beat on the hills or ice. I was taxiing people around for a couple of days to get food, water, etc and she did fantastic.

Texas will get through this for sure! It's not the ice/snow conditions, its the poor infrastructure that has left many without power/water....and, the lack of reliable communication from the city and utility providers. If we know what to expect, we can plan. If we're left guessing, then it becomes frustrating and dangerous.

I feel for all you guys in Texas and other southern states that have been hit by snow and cold weather. It's one thing if you live in Minnesota and it gets cold and snowy... you expect it and are prepared for it. It's quite another when it's supposed to be 70 degrees and sunny and all of a sudden it's zero degrees with a foot of snow. Nobody was prepared. Even such simple things that those who grew up in the snow knew to do... like looking at the weather report and knowing to fill the truck with gas and make sure your propane tanks for the grille were full... are foreign concepts to the deep south citizens.
    Good luck guys!

The thing is no one has snow plows here. We don’t salt the roads so cars don’t rust. My 2001 Trans Am doesn’t have a spec of rust anywhere.

I’ve been out nearly daily in my 2wd Tacoma. No issues. But I grew up in rural Illinois and have snow driving skills.

Thanks hiPSI...fortunately I'm a pretty savvy guy in those regards and did all of those things. I lived in Colorado and NW Arkansas for a few years and dealt with some pretty harsh winters, so lessons were learned a long time ago. Sadly...many don't have that background and weren't prepared. I've been really fortunate that we've been mostly unaffected, but we've been able to provide shelter and food/water to friends that aren't as lucky. We've had 3 families cycling through our house for 4 days now, but they're all of our extended family so it's been fine.

I think there is light at the end of the tunnel, although its snowing heavily right now! Supposed to be 80 degrees by next Thursday :)

BTW...the Tundra/Tacoma plant in San Antonio is something to see! Pretty impressive facility! Doesn't make the trucks any cheaper locally though :(

All i can say is hang in there texas. I've been a week without power, but lucky enough to have a home with a fireplace.

thankfully it seems like things have become more stable with the grid. maybe this will be the catalyst to finally get some fucking competent leadership in this state.

I only use it for my own driveway and a few neighbours' but it works great. Easy as pulling a trailer hitch off so I don't leave it on all the time. It engages automatically when driving in the same direction (so reversing when it is on the back) I didn't go through the hassle of getting a hitch mount up front but I would if I needed to plow more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV5SviAc6Vs

A lot of people in the south do prep, the problem is they wait til the last minute to do so and deplete the fuel at the stations and then everyone freaks the hell out. Then they go after the milk and eggs for whatever reason. Bunch of crowd panic is what happens. Or that’s what I’ve experienced in Georgia when freak storms are on the way, or hurricanes make an unexpected B-line.

Look on the bright side, everyone should still have a bunch of toilet paper. Pretty sure I have like 80 rolls in my basement still.

There’s a town in Texas called el paso. It means pass. Texas will pass thru this and be stronger. All of America will help, I have no doubt.
its what we do. God bless the USA and all its people.

Hope everyone is safe there. Be careful with alternative ways of heating. I know even up here when we have single digit temps which isn't Ofen though it gets cold here some people try some really unsafe things to keep warm. Keep warm and safe. This will pass.
