i put a gibson stainless system on my truck, and they had typical exhaust clamps. i cranked them down and the bastards leaked. tightened them up alittle more and seems better/not leaking.

probably going to get a friend to tig it, but is it common for clamps to leak like that?

i have a gibson and i dont notice any leaking. I did put it together pretty tight to the point where it wouldnt move around even without the clamps.

the front clamp was pretty good and tight. the rear is my issue. i think i got it though. i may not have slid the rear tail pipe enough, so when i tightened it up... you know the rest, now the pipe has the dinples from the clamps and i cant slide it in

Just posted something about exhaust for my truck... I've been looking at the Gibson system to replace a hack job from my truck's previous owner and am wondering how the Gibson sounds. Particularly in the cab. Any noise at all? I'm looking for little to no noise...

    Thanks!

i had a flowmaster 40 before and the drone was too much for me (i must be getting old) the gibson provided the right combination of outside sound and inside noise level comfort.

High temp copper gasket maker does a really good job at sealing slip fit pipes. Also switch out u-clamps for some lap-joint clamps, and put an extra bead of gasket maker in them too.

so the clamps deformed w pipe a bit. i ordered 2.5” band clamps. will they pull that small flare out and seal correctly? 75C7542D-9694-46ED-89A7-87FD5FF323E7.jpg

You can close that flare with the clamp you have. Just put it around the flare and tighten it. But more importantly how far is the pipe into the muffler? Is it to at least where the clamp currently is?

Personally I'd like to see the pipe in at least as far as the old further clamp mark by the muffler.

its at least that far up from what i remember. when i installed that was something i paid attention to.

so i can use the clamp to correct that flare? that would be nice before i switch to the bands.

looks like the flare was caused by clamping into a section that didnt have overlapping pipes

also i dont think you are clamping onto much pipe either. It was a tight fit so i doubt you have much overlap past your old clamping point.

honestly i cant tell.. take the pipe out, mark every 1/4" and see how many marks you cover. Or dont worry about it and run it.

I have the Gibson system and I am disappointed in the sound, just a touch louder than stock (and I am not a guy). I had a Magna Flow on my gen 2 tacoma and it sounded a lot better - I wish I would have spent a little more and got the TRD toyota system

Run away as fast as you can.

The OEM wall thickness will kill those.
